An office at home

0 __D__

So, you want to work from home? First, you need to think about which room to make into your office. This isn’t always easy. When you work from home you need a room which is quiet, light, warm and where there is space to work and to have your equipment and files. You also need a room which is private and secure. You don’t want easy access to important business documents.

1 _____

Often, choosing the right room is difficult. Many houses have limited space so you need to think carefully. Which room is the best? Do you have an attic, basement, garage or spare bedroom? Look at the options you have and ask yourself which room may make a good office. Remember you can also build an extra room or extension but this takes time and money.

2 _____

Let’s look at a few possible solutions. Basements can be a great place for an office but they may be dark, and in winter rather cold and damp. This means they may cost more in electricity. The same can be true of garages. Some people choose to move their car outside or to make part of their garage into an office. The problem with this is security and heating. Some people choose to change the garage door to a stronger one. Others install a security alarm.

3 _____

Perhaps these problems are the reason why many people prefer to make the spare bedroom into the office. It does make life easier as the room is in the house and it’s painted, decorated and also heated. This should make it the most comfortable place to work in without a lot of extra work. The only problem here may be that you need to clear the room of other furniture.

4 _____

Whatever room you decide to make into your office, the next thing to do is to help make people see it as an office not as a bedroom, garage, etc. This is important as it is now a working space and not a place to stop byfor a chat and a coffee. It is also important that your new home office is a place you enjoy working at so make it feel good for you. Put a few pictures on the walls and make it a comfortable place to work.
