Motor City Player Redistribution Plan

Current situation: The Motor City baseball club has failed to field a team for the 2017 American Legion baseball season.

There are 25 high schools in the Zone 1 geographic area that currently do not have an American Legion baseballteam to play for. Eighteen of those schools are north of Bangor, they are; Houlton, Southern Aroostook, Katadin, Schenck, Stearns, Lee Academy, Mattanawcook Academy, Penobscot Valley, Old Town, Orono, John Bapst, Bangor Christian, Greenville, PCHS, Dexter, Foxcroft Academy, Penquis and Central.

The long-standing goal and directive of the American Legion Baseball Committee is to provide the opportunity for as many young people as possible to play American Legion baseball. With that in mind, the Zone 1 Commissioner, Field Director and State Director have made the extraordinary decision to allow players from the afore named schools to try-out for any of three teams in the Greater Bangor area.

Greater Bangor area teams are; Bangor, Brewer and Hampden. Should a player not be selected by the team of their choice they may then try-out for the other teams.

Any player from an unaffiliated high school selected to a team for the 2017 season will automatically be released from that roster on December 31, 2017 regardless if they have additional playing eligible or not. Their case will be re-evaluated for the 2018 season.

Additionally, there are 7 high schools in the Waldo-Knox County area without active American Legion teams for which they can play. Those schools are; Lincoln Academy, Medomack Valley, Oceanside, Mt. View, Camden Hills, Belfast and Searsport.

Players from Belfast and Searsport may try-out for any Greater Bangor area team if they are not currently ona team roster. The same year end stipulation will apply to them as was previously detailed.

Players from Lincoln Academy, Medomack Valley, Oceanside, Camden Hills or Mt. view may try out for any remaining Zone 1 American Legion baseball team Skowhegan, Post 51 or Trenton Acadians subject to the same rules.
