2009ZionsvilleCommunityHigh SchoolGirls Soccer Season Information

To all prospective ZCHS 2009 Girls Soccer parents and players:

We would like to welcome you to a new season for the Zionsville Community High School Girl’s Soccer program. Our motto for the upcoming 2009 season is “CREATING A WINNING TRADITION”.The ZCHS Girls soccer coaching staff believes that we have a great group of returning players as well as an exciting crop of new talentthat will help continue to build a winning atmosphere both on and off the field. However, winning is only one of our many goals this year for our soccer program. We firmly believe that the character and leadership training program introduced last year will be the cornerstone for our program’s success. Our ultimate goal is to build champions for life.

We are very excited and looking forward to the success of all of our teams in 2009 and in order for us to achieve our goals this season we need your help and support as we outline the program’s expectations for the season. The following document outlines all pertinent information for our soccer program for the upcoming 2009 soccer season. In this letter you will find the following information: 2009 Soccer Season Calendar, Spring Weight Training Sessions, Spring Intra-Squad Games, Summer Training Sessions, Summer Tournaments/Games, 3 v3 Tournament, Soccer Camp, Alumni Game, IHSAA Moratorium Week, Hispanic Soccer Camp (Creando Lazos), Tryouts/Pre-Season Training, Green/White Games and Parents Meeting, Practice Pack, Physicals/Documentation, Website, and Coaching Staff Information.

This information is the best that we have as of today, some of it might change depending on several factors, but for the most part it can serve you as a blue print of what our season will look like. If you have any questions about any of the following information feel free to contact Head Coach Ramon Aguillon via email at or via cell phone at 812-447-8126.

2009Calendar

The tentative 2009 calendar is included as a separate attachment. It has all the pertinent dates and times for the months of March to November 2009. Please take a look at it and feel free to contact the coaching staff with any questions. Please note that some of these events times and dates are subject to change. This is best information we can provide to you at this time. Once the season gets closer we will update you with any changes. Let me describe each of the events in this calendar:

Spring Weight Training Sessions/Intra Squad Games

One of the keys to our success this past season was the introduction of weight training, conditioning and strengthening program. This provedto be very effective in several different ways, the obvious one being that it made our players stronger and more prepared to handle the physicality of the high school game. However, it also played a huge factor in terms of injury prevention. I can say very proudlythat for the first time in several years there were zero major injuries for all three teams. This is simply amazing; we did not have one single major knee, ankle, or muscle related injury. I strongly believe this is in relation to the weight training program that was created. Our program also allowed the current 8th graders to work out and meet their potential high school teammates in advance of tryouts; this helped us develop great team chemistry. Through the introduction of our mentoring program, incoming freshmen paired up with upperclassmen to help them get introduced not only to the team but also tohigh school life. This was a huge success as well.

This spring we will again hold weight training workouts twice a week beginning March 3rd and they will run until May 28th. These sessions will be run by Head Coach Ramon Aguillon and Assistant Coach Jeff Mestrich and will focus on strength building, flexibility, core muscle group work, and overall fitness. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:00AM at the ZionsvilleCommunityHigh School gym. Our goal is to have as many players participate as possible, we do understand that there will be conflicts with school, club soccer and other school related activities. We ask you to please communicate with the coaching staff in advance if your daughter cannot attend these sessions. Please note that players need to wear matching gear to weight training practices. Tuesday sessions players will wear white shirt and white shorts, Thursday sessions players will wear black shirt and green shorts. Returning players please bring practice uniforms from last season, new players please bring Zionsville related gear with matching colors.

In order for current 8th graders to participate in weight training sessions they must have an I.H.S.A.A. physical form and a medical release form on file with the high school athletic department. This must be done in advance of the first session. I am including these forms in the attachment section, please have your physician fill and sign it and provide to athletic office. If your daughter does not have a physical on file with the school she will not be able to participate. No exceptions. Also please note that if your daughter currently plays a sport with any Zionsville middle school, and if she has a physical on file with that middle school, that physical can be used for our workouts. If this is the case, please work with your middle school’s respective athletic office so those transcripts can be sent to the high school athletic office.

In addition to the weight training sessions we will also add intra-squad games to the spring season. These games will be held twice a month on Saturdays (time will vary) at the ZCHS basketball gym. Players will play pickup games 5V5 for an hour. This will allow our players to remain connected in the spring and have some fun. Our goal is to have as many players participate as possible, we do understand that there will be conflicts with school, club soccer and other activities. Our expectation is that players attend as many sessions as possible. If your daughter cannot participate in these sessions please communicate this in advance to Head Coach Ramon Aguillon.

Summer Training Sessions

I.H.S.A.A. rules allow high school soccer teams to meet and practice during the summer months prior to the start of the season. Last year it was the first time that we took advantage of this opportunity and I believe it was a key part of our success on the field. For 2009 we are offering all interested players several different training/conditioning sessions during the summer to help them get ready for tryouts.

Summer training sessions will begin Tuesday June 16th and will run until end of July. We will meet as a team three (3) times per week to practice. Practices will be held at ZYSA fields Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday from 6:30-8:00PM. The summer training sessions will be designed to offer each player the opportunity to increase their technical and tactical skills without the normal competitive pressures that occur during tryouts. In addition to the team practices, there will be weight training sessions during the summer. These sessions will be lead by our seniors and will be held three times per week, these sessions will be in the morning. The senior players will ultimately be responsible for setting up a time where all players will meet at ZCHS gym. Please note thatparticipation is strictly voluntary; it is not mandatory but is recommended by the coaching staff.

Let me elaborate on this point, team selection for the 2009 season will not be based on attendance or lack thereof during the summer training sessions. We understand that during the summer there are family activities and vacations planned and we respect this time off soccer. This is simply another opportunity we are offering players to be prepared for tryouts. Each player has the choice to participate in these sessions or not, ultimately tryouts will determine team placement. Players who chose not to participate in these sessions will be responsible to train on their own and be fit for tryouts. If you have any questions about any of this please contact Head Coach Ramon Aguillon.

Summer Tournaments/Games

During the summer we are planning on participating in several tournaments in order to get players comfortable playing with each other prior to the season. Currently there are three tournaments that we are participating in: Mt Vernon Tournament to be held Saturday June 27thin Indianapolis;Adidas National High School Soccer Showcase to be played in Strongsville, Ohio the weekend of July 17th,18th, and 19th’ and the Westfield-Brebeuf Invitational to be held weekend of July 24th, 25th and 26th in Indianapolis.

The Adidas National High School Soccer Showcase is an event designed to bring high schools teams from across the United States to play a series of games for college player identification, team development and program comparison. In 2008 this event attracted over 340 high school teams that played a series of seven (7) games against different states. This tournament is held in Strongsville, Ohio which is a five hour drive from Zionsville. I believe this is a great opportunity for our girls to play against high level competition from other states and also to be seen and recruited by college coaches. In addition it will be a great pre-season trip to work on our team chemistry for the season. The plan would be to leave Zionsville the morning of Friday the 17th; we would play two games Friday evening, three games Saturday and two games Sunday morning. We would return to Zionsville Sunday afternoon. Here are some more details of the tournament:

Adidas National Showcase Details

  • Each team competing will play a series of 7games
  • Each game will be 40 minutes in length with unlimited substitution.
  • Each team will play 2 games Friday afternoon/evening, 3 games Saturday, and 2 games Sunday morning.
  • Each team will have the opportunity to highlight an incoming freshman in the Friday night Adidas Freshmen All-Star game.
  • Each participating team may select their top college prospects to participate in the 2009 Adidas 8v8/7v7 Spotlight games.

Given the shorter time periods and to ensure players get to play as much as possible, team rosters will be capped at 15 players (14 field players and 1 GK). If your daughter is interested in participating please fill out form included in attachments and return no later than April 15th to Head Coach Ramon Aguillonsince we have to register the teamin advance. If we have more than 15 girls interested we will look into forming more than one team. Cost for this tournament will be $40/per player, please make check payable to Zionsville Girls Soccer. In addition parents will be responsible for hotel accommodations which run about $100/night. Details for hotel accommodations and transportation will be provided at a later time. Depending on numbers and other factors we might ask ZCHS to provide a school bus. We will discuss this in further detail once event gets closer. For more information on this tournament you can visit their websiteat:

In addition to these tournaments, we will again host a team from Ohio (North Royalton HS) to play a friendly game in Zionsville. This game will be played Sunday July 12th at 5PM at the ZYSA fields. Teams for these tournaments/games will be set based on player availability. We will make sure that all players play in at least one game this summer. However please note that some players might play more games than others, this will be strictly a coaches decision. Participation is strictly voluntary; it is not mandatory but is recommended by the coaching staff.

Visit to Women’s Professional Soccer Game in Chicago

For those who are unaware, women’s professional soccer is back in the U.S.! A new league has been created; the WPS will begin play this spring in different cities across the U.S. The league, which is being sponsored by Puma, will have a team in Chicago called the Chicago Red Stars. We have started contacts with their staff about the possibility of taking our high school program to see one of their home games. The club in return will offer us discounted tickets and the possibility of on-field activities such as meet the players and even perhaps be part of pre-game festivities. Currently given our summer calendar we have a tentative date of Saturday June 20th for a potential visit. I believe this would be a great opportunity for our girls to see some high quality women’s professional soccer and to learn more about the game. At this point we are looking to see the level of interest from players and parents. If we get enough people on board our plan would be to leave Zionsville Saturday morning, spend the day in Chicago and then attend the game Saturday night at 7:30PM. Details will be discussed at a later time based on number of responses. If you and/or your daughter are interested in attending this game I ask you to please fill out attendance form attached and return to Head Coach Ramon Aguillon no later than April 15th.Participation is strictly voluntary.

3V3 Tournament

Last year we introduced a 3v3 Tournament for all players interested and we had great response so we are bringing it back again this year. This year’s tournament will be held on Saturday July 11th from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at ZYSA soccer fields. If your daughter is interested in participating I ask you to please fill out attendance form attached and return to Head Coach Ramon Aguillon no later than April 15th. Participation is strictly voluntary; it is not mandatory but is recommended by the coaching staff.

Soccer Camp

This year we will again offer a summer soccer camp for all players interested. The camp will run from July 20th to July 24th from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at the ZYSA soccer fields. The training sessions will consist of technical and tactical exercises, conditioning, mental preparedness, and match strategy. This is a good opportunity for incoming 9th graders to meet the coaching staff before the beginning of the regular season. The cost for this camp will be $55.00 per player. This money will be used to provide t-shirts to all campers, provide ice, water, and refreshments and to cover miscellaneous costs. If your daughter is interested in participating please fill out form included in attachments and return no later than April 15thto Head Coach Ramon Aguillon.Participation is strictly voluntary; it is not mandatory but is recommended by the coaching staff.

Alumni Game

Last year we introduced a new tradition to our soccer program with our first ever ZCHS Girls Soccer Alumni game; this event proved to be a huge success. We had over 20 alumni show up for the game and they had a blast. This year we are bringing this event back and we are planning it to be even better than last year’s. The event consists of a game between ZCHS Alumni and the current high school players. All players interested in participating will have a chance to play. After the game we are planning on having some food and refreshments for all attendees. Due to I.H.S.A.A. regulations the Alumni Game will need to take place before our tryouts. So, the 2009 Alumni Game will be held on Thursday July 23rd at 6:00pm. The game will be played at ZYSA Eagle Field and it will consist of two (2) 40 minute halves. We look forward to everyone’s participation in this event. If your daughter is interested in participating please fill out form included in attachments and return no later than April 15th to Head Coach Ramon Aguillon. Participation is strictly voluntary; it is not mandatory but is recommended by the coaching staff.

I.H.S.A.A. Moratorium Week

Each I.H.S.A.A. member school must allocate one week during the summer when school facilities cannot be used and contact with coaches is not permitted. This year moratorium week will be held from June 29th through July 5th. During this week coaches are not allowed to have any contact with players and/or parents. This includes e-mails, telephone calls, or text messages. In addition players cannot get together and practice as a team. All activities this week must be done separately by each player. It is very important that we enforce this rule. In addition to moratorium week, the I.H.S.A.A. dictates that there will be no soccer practice activity with a soccer ball involvedthe week before official practice begins. In 2009 this is the week of July 27th to August 1st. I.H.S.A.A. allows coaches to meet with players and do conditioning drills during this week as long as a soccer ball is not involved. We will use this week to meet as team in the evening to do running drills in preparation for tryouts.
