Job Requirements
- BA/BS/MBA in Business or Accounting
- 5-10 years of related accounting and managerial experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Restaurant or retail experience preferred
- Expert Microsoft Office Suite skills
- Experience with Peachtree Financial Software
- Experienced with financial data analysis and operational impacts
- Strong planning and organization skills
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability
- Project management skills that include coordinating several departments and/or outside vendors
- Knowledgeable in cost accounting, financial reporting and database management
- Extra consideration given to those experienced in FoodTrak (database), Monkey Media, Micros and/or Crystal Report writing

Performance Expectations
The Zingerman’s Deli Business Manager performs a wide variety of accounting, administrative and management duties:
- Maintains Zingerman’s financial management reporting tools, including Departmental Operating Reports (D.O.R.), financial statements, annual plan documents
- Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of internal financial reporting
- Assists Owners (a.k.a. Managing Partners) and management team in the administrative and financial management of the restaurant, retail and catering businesses
- Leads the Deli’s annual plan process
- Provides Managing Partners/managers with reports and other information to assist in forecasting annual plan data
- Supports Management and other key staff in resolving any financial-related problems
- Manages and oversees all finance and business functions
- Performs month-end closing activities, including bank reconciliation, journal entries, and reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Produces profit and loss statements within established timeframes
- Processes vendor and customer invoices, cash management and inter-company transactions
- Monitors cash flow and forecasts requirements, both in the short- and long-term
- Prepares special financial analyses and reports as requested
- Produces accurate sales reports as needed
- Prepares period account analysis on specific balance sheet accounts
- Oversees and manages the accounting department that includes 2 staff members
- Coordinates and oversees the integration of information from two point of sale systems, a purchasing system (FoodTrak-database) and Peachtree Financial system
- Works proactively to prevent problems and encourage cooperation toward achieving organizational goals
- Understands the operational nature of the Deli business (including restaurant, retail and catering functions)
- Becomes certified to teach, and then regularly teaches, finance related staff classes
- Helps develop financial understanding of all staff and managers
- Actively supports open-book management techniques and a finance culture throughout the business
- Completes Training Passport within the stated timeframes
- Lives and models Zingerman’s Guiding Principles
- Attends, participates in and leads weekly huddles with staff
- Establishes and maintains good communication and a positive working relationship with all staff
- Oversees and gives input on capital expenditures
- Coordinates import payments and purchasing of foreign currencies
- Reviews and forecasts purchasing commitments and analyses on weekly, monthly & yearly basis
- Oversees secure cash handling practices from Deli operations, which have a large proportion of cash transactions
- Works some non-traditional hours as needed, including one Sunday evening per month during inventory and some Saturdays or late evenings
Compensation
- This is a full-time, salaried position averaging 50 hours per week
