ZF Lenksysteme opens a new production site in Hungary

Schwäbisch Gmünd/Maklár, 5th September 2014 – Today, ZF Lenksysteme GmbH, a joint venture of ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Robert Bosch GmbH, is celebrating the official opening of its second production site in Hungary. "Thanks to our extended manufacturing capacities in Hungary, we are now able to meet our customers' demands even better than in the past. As part of our international production network, the factories in Maklár and Eger help strengthen the competitiveness of the Group as a whole," explains Dr. Marcus Parche, Executive Vice President of ZF Lenksysteme GmbH and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ZF Lenksysteme Hungária Kft.

With a total surface area of approximately 26,000 sqm, the new Maklár production site comprises a number of assembly lines for high-quality EPSapa car electric steering systems. In addition, it also manufactures a number of the components for electric steering systems. The EPSapa system, which ZF Lenksysteme developed specifically to cope with higher axle loads, offers outstandingly comfortable steering performance coupled with a reduction in energy consumption of up 90 percent compared to power steering systems. Its customers include a large number of internationally renowned automobile manufacturers.

It was possible to launch production at the new site less than a year after the start of construction. "We had barely 11 months between the first building activities and fully functional productive operation. This record time is due first and foremost to our highly committed team on site, as well as to our international experts and the outstanding cooperation between our global sites," explains Parche. In total, the company has invested approximately 40 million euros in the development of the new site. "With this production launch, we will convert the up-front investments into exceptional product quality and outstanding business relations with new and existing ZF Lenksysteme Hungária customers," state Matthias Augenstein, Commercial Works Manager, and Daniel Pridal, Technical Works Manager at the Eger and Maklár sites.

At present, approximately 60 employees work at the new site in Maklár. As more capacity is taken up, this value will gradually increase to approximately 400 employees. Some 710 employees already work in the Eger factory approximately ten kilometres away. This factory mainly manufactures car power steering systems as well as steering columns for commercial vehicles and cars.
