Education
Bachelor of Science in
Computer Science
University of California at Riverside / I am seeking mid to long term contract work in a challenging position that includes C# software development using Microsoft .NET technologies. Solution Architect responsibilities are also interesting to me, helping to define requirements and provide direction across teams.
Primarily I consider myself to be a web developer using the Microsoft stack of technologies such as MVC, ASP.NET, C# and SQL Server. However, I can wear many hats, from development lead, web development and database design, to helping with requirements gathering. I feel that I am at my best working with a small team of developers to create useful applications. I also enjoy helping clients understand their application needs by working through their business requirements. With solid verbal and written communication skills, I am easily able to relate technical concepts to others, regardless of the audience’s technical experience level.
My recent project work is assisting with an international corporation specializing in water delivery systems. I helped with their North American facility expansion. Prior experiences are with medical device companies, a warehouse inventory control system, and state level online testing website serving primary and secondary education districts. In another opportunity, I architected a web based solution for a local distributer of CNC Machines. We created a distributed status gathering set of functionality with ASP.NET, SQL Server and WCF. I’ve also been a technical lead to help a marketing company with a website where users can customize mailings for their customers. My longest duration has been with major medical companies. One in the Twin Cities area, another based in southern Minnesota and working remotely. There I played the role of developer and technology lead, making recommendations for technological direction and application enhancements.
I have worked on a wide range of projects, from simple C# or VB.NET websites to N-tiered technical architectures. To build upon these experiences, I have received advanced training in project management, C++ programming, OO programming and design, and business requirements gathering.

CAREER HISTORY
Zemmels Consulting Services, Inc. (ZCSI) / March, 2006 to Present
New Brighton, Minnesota / After over 12 years of providing consulting services to businesses in the Twin Cities area (both large and small) I started my own consulting company. I focus on developing web or desktop applications using Microsoft technologies. I specialize in using C# with ASP.NET. As an independent contractor, I can better control the level of service I am able to provide my clients.
Fujitsu Consulting Services, Inc. (Born) / October, 1997 to March, 2006
Minnetonka, Minnesota / Hired as a Consultant in the Microsoft Business Unit, my project experience ranges from estimating and coordinating my own project and development work, to leading a team of developers to create a multi-tier application. Recently, I was involved with a SOX compliance project using C# and SQL Server 2000. Prior to that, I spent three years with a major medical company on a web application written in ASP and ASP.NET with C#. I first developed my expertise as a Visual Basic 6 developer creating stand alone and multi-tier applications. I have been able to further grow my skills in other Microsoft technologies using tools such as ASP, ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET, COM/COM+, MSMQ and SQL Server. At Born, I have led Microsoft.NET Certifications study groups. In June, 2005, Born was purchased by Fujitsu Consulting.
Accenture (Andersen Consulting) / August, 1993 to October, 1997
Minneapolis, Minnesota / Accenture hired me in to the role of Senior as an “experienced hire.”While at Accenture, I was able to gain valuable development and project coordination experience. I worked in Minneapolis for the CSCOESolution Center. Projects I worked on ranged from helping automate a national mortgage company to development on an internal development toolset. I enhanced my programming ability by leading a development project using object oriented concepts with C++. Accenture, formerly known as Andersen Consulting, is the largest consulting firm in the world.
Auto-Graphics, Inc. / March, 1989 to July, 1993
Pomona, California / I was hired at Auto-Graphics after graduating from university because of my C programming experience I gained while working on my Bachelor of Science degree. While at Auto-Graphics, I worked on several projects, ranging from making enhancements to their PC based book catalog library system to being the lead developer for the Small Library Management System. Auto-Graphics primarily contracted with libraries to catalog books for electronic book catalogs. I learned a great deal about the automation of library systems while employed here.

WORK HISTORY
Uponor, Inc.C#, VB.Net,.NET 4.5, Agile, VS2015
December, 2017 to PresentSQL Server, Oracle, Git, SVN
Uponor is an international company based out of Norway. They have manufacturing facilities in North America that produce drinking water delivery systems, such as PEX tubing. The work I had there was to assist with updating and modifying their existing windows based manufacturing and quality control applications to support the expansion of multiple manufacturing facilities and testing labs. I was expected to take simple requirements and expand their meaning to ensure the application changes supported multiple facilities. My efforts included requesting meetings with manufacturing leads and business owners to discuss the application changes to ensure they work as needed and expected. I then provided written change documents to communicate and ensure an understanding of the new requirements.
Medtronic, Inc.C#, MVC5, Razor 5, Bootstrap 3, .NET 4.5,
July, 2015 to September, 2017LINQ, jQuery 2.2, Agile, iFactr Mobile Apps
Contracting at Medtronic requires a 2 month leave after working for 24 consecutive months. I took off my 2 months and returned to Medtronic in the Enterprise Mobility Group. I was brought back in for continued work on mSTAR, Longevity Estimator and nLink. These applications have been created to help the Commercial and Patient Support Operations group. While part of the nLink team, it was decided to replace a Windows version on nLink with a web based application used by a customer support center. My history with ASP.NET development was put to use working with another developer to create an MVC5 web application. We used Razor 5, .NET 4.5, Bootstrap 3, jQuery 2.2 for the front-end design. Once the nLinkWeb application was finished, my last year was spent back with the mSTAR team. I assisted with day to day functional improvements, estimating feature changes, working with business owners to define new features, and helping train new developers that joined the team. mSTAR has over 10 business units that influence the functional changes. iFactr allows us to create mSTAR as an iOS and Windows application, used by over 3,000 Medtronic field staff. This app facilitates medical device ordersand patient registrations for Medtronic, accounting for over $200million a month in revenue.
Medtronic, Inc.C#, VS2012, .NET 4.0, LinqConnect, Oracle 11
September, 2012 to May, 2015LINQ, iFactr, Agile, Windows, iOS
I have been brought in by the Enterprise Mobility Group at Medtronic to join a development effort for two internal applications, nLink and mSTAR. These applications have been created to help the Commercial and Patient Support Operations group. Both are developed in C# and a cross-platform mobile framework called iFactr, from ITR Mobility. The technology stack includes C# with VS2012, .NET 4.0 and LinqConnect ORM from Devart. The supported platforms for these applications are Windows, iPad, iPhone and Webkit. I participated in daily Agile scrums with phased releases. On more recent releases of mSTAR I am a Lead Developer, helping prioritize and coordinate development efforts. I am a key liaison between the business and development by helping define functional (and technical) possibilities with our business analysts as they create new requirements for our development team.
Worthington Ag Parts, Inc.C#, VS2008, VS2008 ReportViewer,
June, 2012 to September, 2012SQL Server 2005, jQuery, LINQ
Worthington Ag Parts is a major player in the farm implement and equipment resellers market, having a world-wide presence through various business entities. Along with this business comes several websites used to manage and sell the inventory. My role was to help pull together various functions from other websites, and integrate the features into a new website for Capello B2B sales. I worked directly with the IT Director, using some existing functions, and creating a few new.
Appolis, Inc.C#, VS2005, VS2008, VS2010, SSRS,
January, 2012 to May, 2012SQL Server 2008, TFS, Agile
Appolis brought me in to help with customizations to their WithoutWires inventory control system. This system consists of an ASP.NET website for warehouse console management and scanner-enabled Pocket PCs for warehouse inventory processing. Windows services are utilized for server-side access to the SQL Server back-end. I assisted with new website features and database changes, along with webservice and WCF service code changes. Appolis has over 35 clients they work with, some of which have customizations based on their particular business need. With so many clients over the years, I needed to be proficient in the various Visual Studio environments, SSRS and SQL Server.
