Zeerust Primary School: Building health in mind and body

Some of our students identified athletics day as providing for some of their aspirational goals for the semester. They were: Alice, Cameron, Lucy and Stephanie (see picture). Well done, kids.

School Council

Last night school council held its AGM where the Annual Report for 2015 and Annual Implementation Plan for 2016 were endorsed. They will be made available via the website soon. Office holders were also chosen and they were:

Bill Ludlow – president,

Rachel Dunn – vice-president, and

Glenda Telford – secretary.

Our council members are Darren Schreck and Katie Mason and the P&F representative is Vikki Waser. I am the CEO.

Earn and Learn – Term 2

Next term on Friday, between recess and lunch, the children will be once again creating a classroom economy with the Earn & Learn series of activities. This is where they create businesses and services, become employers or employees, and buy and sell items or services to each other. It is a very educational and enjoyable activity. The time flies by. We will begin in the first week of term.

In the past we have had a book-shop owner, a café operator, car yards, chemists, doctors, gymnasium trainers, hairdressers, house builders, jewelers, mechanics, music store-owners, petrol sales, police, supermarket proprietors, and a tatooists. Some business employ others. If a student is unable to come up with an idea they will be customers and I will provide them with money each week as I play the role of the government and the main bank. Children should discuss their idea with their parents.

Welcome

You may have noticed a couple of new faces around the school. You weren’t mistaken, Josh has enrolled, and Myla is thinking about it. Both are grade 2 students and we welcome them to our community.

Building Health in Mind & Body - Athletics Sports Day - Monday 22nd March 2016

Well done to the Zeerust students for the effort displayed competing at all the events. Five children out of the 15 attending won a ribbon in individual competition. They were: Alice, Mia, Jacinda, Stephanie and Lucy. Our best event with four ribbons was the triple jump followed by the long jump with three ribbons. The eight-year old girls took out the trifecta in triple jump.

Our best overall performance was the sprint in which 9 students achieved a B standard. We also did well in the very 200m and the long jump where seven students each achieved a B standard or better. That’s half the school.

I have to thank Mrs. Telford for preparing the children for each event and the JSC for organisng extra practices. I think daily fitness probably played a role too.
