Youth Media Minds of America

Youth Media Minds of America (YMMA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing hands-on audio and video production training to youth ages 14-18 in the Atlanta metropolitan area. YMMA educates and empowers underprivileged and under-served teens by providing them with the tools they need to succeed in the multi-media industry. Our full curriculum includes audio engineering, video production and editing, multi-media technology and life-skills training.

For the past three years, founder Roy Gipson and his team of industry professionals have trained and mentored over 150 students; bringing youth and audio/video technology together to develop successful and responsible media leaders of the future. Our talented teens have applied their learned skills in the real world by covering prestigious events such as Russell Simmons’ Hip Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment, the 100 Black Men of Atlanta / Bank of America Football Classic, and most recently, the Honda Battle of the Bands.

Our goal is to continue providing at-risk and under-served teens with exciting hands-on training and real-world media experience to give them a competitive edge in their professional careers. Since we first opened the doors to our newly-constructed facility in July of 2006, our organization has consistently continued to grow. We are happy to say that our most recent module was packed to capacity, exceeding our enrollment objective and creating an atmosphere in which our students excelled immensely.

In the past, students have produced an HIV/AIDS awareness public service announcement, a poetic tribute to black history, a music video featuring the “YMMA All Stars,” and an original reality series. These talented young minds also wrote and produced an original television commercial highlighting the services and opportunities available at Youth Media Minds of America. Most recently, the students of YMMA's Audio-Video Muliti-Media Production (AVMP) Program produced a short horror/comedy film with an impressive outcome. As always, we were elated to see their commitment, hard work, and dedication to such a demanding project.

We welcome you to visit our website, to learn more about the endeavors of the AVMP students, members, and supporters. There, you will find more information about our mission and efforts to provide our youth with valuable technology training. With the continued support of our friends, family, and community, Youth Media Minds of America can prepare our ambitious youth for a bright future.
