YOUTH CENTRE ATTENDANT (PART-TIME)

As Youth Centre Attendant you will plan, prepare and execute recreational and social activities for teens; record information and complete reports; ensure facility regulations are adhered to; and perform other related duties.

Applicants must have completed courses in recreation, physical education, social work or psychology, supplemented by experience working with youth and good understanding of teens and teen issues. A demonstrated understanding of teen, social and economic issues within the community, an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people with a positive client focus, and current Standard First Aid Certificate, C.P.R, Level C and AED is required.

The City offers an exciting work environment. This is a unionized position; the hourly rate of pay is $21.07 plus 6% vacation pay. Day, evening and weekend work will be required.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: YOUTH CENTRE ATTENDANT

DESIGNATED SUPERVISOR: Director Community Services

DEPARTMENT: Community Services

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Community Services or designated supervisor, the Youth Centre Attendant plans, prepares and executes recreational and social activities for teens.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Supervise Teen programs including Go Rec It and Chilin programs

·  Coordinate special outings and activities for teens on a demand basis including tournaments etc.

·  Liaise with teens and youth leaders, throughout the area and coordinate activities, events, and programs based on their needs and interests.

·  Record and maintain information on all activities, participation numbers, incidents, accidents, recommendations.

·  Ensure designed program areas are safe and clean and that all aspects of risk management are addressed.

·  Adhere to policies, procedures and guidelines pertaining to the department and facility.

·  Maintain and retrieve information in accordance within the requirements set forth by legislation (eg. Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act) and City information management policies, procedures and guidelines.

·  Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of courses in recreation, physical education, social work or psychology, supplemented by experience working with youth and good understanding of teens and teen issues; or sufficient qualifications as determined by assessment.

·  Knowledge of the organization, procedures, functions and objectives of the environment.

·  Understanding of teen, social and economic issues within the community.

·  Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people.

·  Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings

·  Demonstrated professionalism, mentoring and coaching skills.

·  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

·  Valid Standard First Aid Certificate, C.P.R, Level C and AED.

·  Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in the work and ability to follow safety protocols.
