Judges Statements regarding Best In Show Winners:

1st: Grace Miller Bell “ Peace Conquers All” sculpture, North Hall High School, RM 7.

“Very whimsical. Great form, color, shape. Very fine craftsmanship. The layering technique gave the piece such a rippling effect making it very expressive and even surreal. It meets all the requirements that a Best In Show piece should meet.

2nd: Madeline Butler “Girl With 3 Bees” pencil, Lakeview Academy, JM 142.

“We must commend the sense of great value range. Proportions are dead on. The piece makes you wonder “Why three bees”? You can feel the joy radiating from this piece. Great attention to detail. Great presentation. Beautiful movement can be seen in the piece as well. Light to dark transitions very well.”

3rd: Yasmin Rebollar “Land to Nowhere” encaustic mixed media, Gainesville High School, JM 105.

“Well integrated mixed media. Choice of color is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Another example of great presentation. Your eye follows where it needs to. Creates a nice mood.”

HM: Logan Yang “Sunny Afternoon” acrylic, Lakeview Academy, B 7.

A nice balance between precious and license. Very sophisticated for a 10th grader. Palette was limited but the use of it was used very wisely. Shadows are just right, slightly obscured but in a powerful way. Atmospheric perspective done very well. Overall a stunning piece.”
