Job Title:Bolt FMCoordinator

Accountable to:Youth Team Leader (Youth Forum Board)

1.Job Purpose

The coordinator’s role is to lead the Bolt FM team in delivering radio training to nine communities, enable online broadcastingand coordinate the annual FM broadcast. This will include both the supervision of staff and volunteers.

2.Major Tasks and Responsibilities

To work with staff, volunteers and partners in 9 communities to provide training in radio.

To work along with other staff members to continue Bolt FM’s role in providing young people a voice through radio.

To work with staff, volunteers and partners to coordinate and deliver aFM broadcast.

Deliver accreditation in Youth Achievement Awards/ Dynamic Youth Awards.

Work with local young people in developing programmes that develop their skills and confidence.

Work with local volunteers to enable young people to creating programmes that develop their skills and confidence.

Work with local schools to deliver short courses and training in radio.

Lead monthly staff supervision sessions and planning quarterly meetings training for volunteer team.

Assist in recruiting volunteers to the Bolt FM project

Organise, plan and lead the initial training sessions, inductions for the volunteers

Maintain confidentiality over personal information relating to individual users of the project.

Undertake administrative tasks including reports and records of work undertaken. To assist with the mailings of information to the community and of publicity for the project.

Assist in the regular monitoring and evaluation of the project’s work.

Carry out the duties of the post with due regard to Equal Opportunities.

Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Youth Forum.

3.Note

Work has to be undertaken outwith normal hours on a regular basis, including evening and weekend work.

4.Personal Qualities, Interests and Skills

The project requires a person with understanding of both radio and/orworking in an area of multiple deprivation. A worker who has excellent communication skills with young people. You will be a person who has enthusiasm for working with young people. You will be able to work positively with staff, volunteers and young people and have skills in planning, recording, monitoring and evaluation. You will have:

Skills and experience of working in radio

Skills and experience of working with children and young people.

Be able to undertake training in delivering accredited qualifications

An ability to set up and run groups and to record the progress of individuals in the groups and the group process.

A great understanding of, and a sensitive approach towards, the situations, needs and difficulties faced by children and young people, particularly by children and young people in disadvantaged communities.

Experience ofsupervising staff/ volunteers.

Be able to organise with others training for volunteers

An ability to manage budgets and keep excellent financial records

An ability to work positively with colleagues in the project.

Good listening and verbal skills.

Understanding of, and commitment to, the promotion of equal opportunities policies and practice.

5.Terms and conditions

Renumeration - The coordinator will receive£24,000 plus 5% pension.

Hours – 35 hrs per week (It is expected that much of the work will take place outside office hours and at weekends) with 26 days holiday plus 6 days public holidays.

Supervision – Will be provided by Youth Team Leader

Duration of contract – 3 years
