The Abbot David’s School for Spiritual Directors program is offered each summer. We are on a sincere mission to offer thisspiritual and educational opportunity so that you may be well prepared to fully respond to God’s Call to serve others well as a companion on their spiritual journey. It takes a serious level of commitment for all involved.

Your time commitment to this program would include:

  • Attendance and full participationat two consecutive summer programs that lasts for two weeks on site at the Old Mission Santa Barbara – Mission Renewal Center in Santa Barbara, California.
  • Between the yearly sessions, you would submit two book reports and continue in ongoing spiritual direction, journaling & reflection.
  • A Certificate of Completion is provided and prayers of blessing in our final Eucharistic Celebration

The suggested donation for the School for each summer session is:

$2,070(Private Room) $1,875.00 (Shared)

This includes room, board, tuition, spiritual direction sessions (4), handouts and other course related materials. An application fee of $55.00 to be sent with completed application and current photo.

A $350.00 non-refundable deposit is due with the Registration Form to reserve your space upon acceptance to our program.

Beginnings & Beyond…

Recognizing the need to provide proper Spiritual Direction for those whose lives were being touched by the Holy Spirit as a result of the Charismatic Renewal of the Church, Abbot David Geraets, O.S.B., founded the Charismatic Benedictine Community and the School for Spiritual Directors in Pecos, NM. Since his unexpected passing in March 2012, the faculty, support staff & graduates of the School for Spiritual Directors continues to serve & support those called to minister in this capacity.

Drawing on a variety of people, ordained and laypersons, spiritual directors from here and abroad, our School provides an opportunity for participants to share in Benedictine Prayer & Community Life. Participants gather daily in the Celebration of the Eucharist; Praying the Liturgy of the Hours (Morning Prayer and Vespers); classroom presentations, exercise; prayer ministry; and small group sharing. Time is allowed for personal reflection and recreation.

The School for Spiritual Directors offers an annual Reunion Retreat for graduates and current participants. Registered guests are also welcomed. The 2013 dates are Feb 22-25th. Please email Dr. Marie at for a registration form.
