Purpose / To manage the Information Technology and processes in order to meet organisational requirements
Roles and Responsibilities:
IT Strategy:
  • Develop and implement a strategy and action plans for the IT Department
  • Align the IT Strategy to the overall organisational strategy and ensure that new capabilities required by the organisation are supported
  • Identify and interpret related legislation and its impact on the IT Department and ensure compliance
  • Analyse qualitative and quantitative data required to inform a strategic IT plan
  • Strategise, research, develop and review appropriate IT technologies, systems and processes and adopt best practices
IT Management:
  • Manage the organisations computer systems and assets
  • Ensure data quality and integrity across all IT Systems (single point of entry, synchronisation, etc.)
  • Keep abreast of latest IT technologies and industry best practices and make improvement recommendations
  • Manage the IT Change Management process
  • Determine organisational computer systems requirements (hardware and software)
  • Maintain and renew software licences
IT Risk Management:
  • Apply and ensure compliance with the DPSA IT Governance Framework
  • Develop and implement the IT Knowledge Management Plan in order to ensure effective and efficient knowledge transfer
  • Assess network and IT Systems security risks and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain, update and test the IT Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Conduct IT system backups
IT System Architecture:
  • Define IT Architecture blueprint (WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, Servers, hardware infrastructure, Telecoms, etc.)
  • Monitor IT Architecture performance (throughput, uptime, etc.) and make improvement recommendations
  • Maintain and update the Configuration Management Database (CMDB)
  • Maintain IT Architecture
ERP Systems:
  • Assess current ERP Systems capabilities and define ERP Systems requirements
  • Implement and coordinate improvements to meet the flow of information in the organisation
  • Define ERP System specifications and functionality
  • Manage the implementation of ERP Systems
  • Monitor ERP System performance (as per SLA's) and make improvement recommendations
  • Provide first level ERP systems support
  • Escalate ERP System problems to relevant service providers as required
  • Coordinate ERP System training
IT Supplier Management:
  • Review, negotiate and update IT Supplier Contracts and Service Level Agreements
  • Monitor IT Service Provider performance as per contractual requirements and Service Level Agreements
  • Manage IT suppliers SLA and report on the performance of suppliers against SLA
Hardware:
  • Install and maintain computer hardware (PC's, laptops, printers, etc.)
  • Install server computers and peripherals
  • Install networking hardware (switches, routers, wireless access points, etc.)
  • Configure computer and networking hardware
Software:
  • Maintain and update operating systems (Windows server, etc.)
  • Administer security systems (active directory, firewalls, antivirus, etc.)
  • Maintain and update PC software
  • Maintain and administer email exchange server and software
  • Maintain and administer mobile device software (emails, etc.)
Maintenance:
  • Maintain server computers, personal computers and computer peripherals
  • Ensure regular maintenance of server room (UPS, fire systems, air conditioners, etc.)
Telecomms:
  • Maintain and update telecommunications hardware and software (Routers, modems, etc.)
  • Monitor telecomms performance (up-time, bandwidth, latency, etc.) and report and follow-up problems with service providers
IT Projects:
  • Manage a project team of a IT Systems project to deliver project objectives
  • Contribute to project initiation, scope definition and scope change control
  • Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budget for a project or sub project and monitor and control actual cost against budget
  • Contribute to the management of project risk within own field of expertise
  • Develop a simple schedule to facilitate effective project execution
  • Monitor, evaluate and communicate simple project schedules
  • Work as a project team member
  • Identify, suggest and implement corrective actions to improve quality of project work
  • Plan, organise and support project meetings and workshops
  • Conduct project documentation management to support project processes
  • Provide procurement administration support to a project
  • Provide assistance in implementing and assuring project work meets quality requirements
  • Sign off IT Projects
  • Perform any other duties as delegated by a manager
Reporting:
  • Compile IT Reports on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis

Qualification/s proposed for role /
  • National Diploma/ Degree Information Technology or;
  • National Diploma/ Degree Information Systems or equivalent

  • IT Information Library (ITIL) Certification
