Dear Parents,

Your child has been enrolled in my fifth grade class in room 111. I am very pleased to be teaching your fifth grader during the upcoming year!

I am looking forward to working with you and your child in an effort to make the 2016/17 academic year a fun, productive experience. Communication between us is important to your child’s success. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have at any time throughout the school year. Don’t hesitate to call me at school or at home. I have included my e-mail address to encourage this connection. Please give it a try and we can use this technology as another way to stay in touch this year.

A welcome back school activity has been planned for late August. I’ll let you know when Parent/Family Night will be held. It will be soon after school starts. I look forward to meeting you and having a productive year in room 111.

√ 3 Pocket Folders √ Crayons √ Pencil Box

√ Ruler with in. and cm. √ 1 Box Tissue √ colored pencils, set

√ 3 pkgs. Wide-ruled, three ring binder paper √ 1 pair Gym Shoes

√ 1 pair of headphones or ear-buds √ 1 book to keep at school for independent reading

We will also have the opportunity to participate in several academic activities this year, such as Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Science Fair, and Battle of the Books. The following is a suggested reading list for the 2016/17 Battle of the Books contest. There is every reason to begin reading early. Check your library for the books listed on the next page.
