JOB TITLE: FAMILY SUPPORT CASEWORKER

PROGRAM: In-Home Preschool Visitation Program

JOB SUMMARY:

The Family Support Preschool Caseworker works under the direct supervision of the Community Based Services Program Director.

The Family Support Caseworker for the In-Home Preschool Visitation program is responsible to provide in home services to children ages 3-5 that are enrolled in preschool or a child care center, using the evidence based curriculum, Raising a Thinking Child. Additional duties include offering a 4-6 weeks group parenting education class with the same curriculum.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. These items will be the accountabilities for performance appraisals.

1. / Teach and implement the Raising a Thinking Child training manual, the Thinking Parent Thinking Child book and I Can Problem Solve model to parents of preschool children.
2. / Contact area preschools and child care centers to promote the program to receive referrals and schedule workshops
3. / Understand the Early Childhood Iowa (ECI) grant and grant requirements.
4. / Complete all required paperwork and reports accurately and timely and within ECI and COA (Council on Accreditation) guidelines.
5. / Provide in-home parenting education and support services to parents of preschool children, using the Raising a Thinking Child training manual, through modeling, teaching and demonstration of the materials.
6. / Assist families in completing the pre and post Protective Factor Surveys.
7. / Complete weekly time study for Payroll Department and submit with timesheet and mileage sheet. Mileage sheet must not have more than one month’s mileage recorded per sheet.
8. / Demonstrate professional writing and grammar skills in completion of paperwork.
9. / Attend the Early Childhood Iowa board meetings and participate in related committees.
10. / Offer one parent education workshop, as applicable.
11. / Establish and maintain professional boundaries with clients.
12. / Complete monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required by the ECI Contracts within the required timeframes.
13. / Complete file maintenance duties as assigned, ensuring files contain all required documentation.
14. / Enter required information into the DAISEY database and the agency’s electronic health record, accurately and timely.
15. / Must demonstrate effective skills in engaging children and families in performing the Family Support Caseworker job duties.

3.  EXTERNAL CUSTOMER SERVICE: Establish productive relationships with external people and organizations. Promote the agency, program, and mission to clients, referral sources, and potential external supporters as opportunities arise.

4.  ETHICS AND DIVERSITY: Adhere to agency’s code of ethics and professional standards. Set clear, appropriate, and culturally sensitive boundaries with clients and staff. Show sensitivity and respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity of clients, families, agency staff, and other community members and groups.

5.  ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY: Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position.

6.  PERFORMANCE & QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in the agency’s PQI process.

TELECOMMUTING DUTIES

Community Based Services staff who telecommute are expected to be in compliance with agency policies, just as if they were reporting to work at the Young House Family Services office daily. These duties do not only apply during working hours, but also during off-duty hours.

The following guidelines apply to all telecommuting Family Support Caseworkers:

• Confidential client information is to be maintained in confidence at all times. Specifically, client files are to be kept in a secure manner in the home office, i.e. locked file cabinet, box or drawer.

• Agency computer passwords are confidential; they are not to be shared and should be kept in a secure location.

• Smart phones must have a protected passcode.

• Text messages from clients or regarding clients should be deleted after conversation is completed.

• Telecommuting staff are required to retrieve and respond to email at least twice per day, preferably at the start of and end of the work day.

• Telecommuting staff are required to communicate, face to face, verbally, or electronically, with Program Director once per week.

• Office equipment, supplies and therapeutic resources are provided by Young House Family Services and remain the property of the agency and upon the employee’s departure from employment, all unused supplies, equipment and therapeutic resources must be returned to Young House Family Services in good working order.

Additionally:

·  Must have a valid driver’s license, be age 21, and meet agency insurance requirements to transport clients or drive for agency purposes.

·  Must provide evidence of personal car insurance at time of hire and as renewed.

·  Must have ability to effectively deal with emergency situations.

·  Must be able to use agency computer system and software necessary to carry out job functions.

·  Must be trained in First Aid and CPR if assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology or a related social science field, plus equivalent of two years’ full-time experience in a related field.

The employee must provide documentation of education, with an original transcript sent to the Human Resources Director, at the employee’s expense, if applicable.
