Philosophy “Inspiration for Creative Minds”. At Young Discoverers we value

every child, and place importance on learning through play, which

is promoted through the wide variety of activities and experiences

both indoors and outdoors, by highly qualified and caring

practitioners.

A child’s most enduring educator is their parent(s) and we believe

that we can only do the best for that child if we work closely with

their parents so we can better understand and plan for each child’s

unique learning journey.

Prior to each child joining us we will offer a home visit which will

take place as close to the start date as possible, and this will be

undertaken by a nominated key person who will be responsible for

the care of your child. They will provide reassurance for your

child to enable them to feel loved, safe and valued, as we want to

give parents total peace of mind in leaving their most treasured

possessions with us.

The Curriculum Young Discoverers follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum for England and Wales, which is a statutory document that provides an umbrella under which our full range of children will fall with regard to their educational provision. Staff will use this guidance when they observe and gather information on each child’s progress. The significant range of activities and experiences we provide enable children to explore, make choices, and develop independence. We operate a free flow system between the environments in all weather on a daily basis for all children regardless of their age, so we ask parents to provide suitable clothing for children to enjoy the experience.

The relationship between a child’s parents and a setting is crucial to the child’s well-being. The welfare, safety and protection of your child are at the heart of everything we do. To enable us to make the best provision for your child we are officially required to ask for information to be provided to us. Please understand that there are sound reasons why we are required to ask these questions. We want to help your child it is not just because we are curious. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Nursery Management Team

Director

Ruth Newton lived in Escrick as a child, and still has close links with the village. She cares passionately about the needs of working parents and their children as a working mum herself. The girls are proud founder Young Discoverers, having been members of the Before and After School, and Holiday Clubs since they first started, and her son attends Nursery. Ruth has seen the need for a service that offers so much more than simply somewhere to leave the children, ensuring that they benefit from all the special moments that children enjoy whilst in their home environment. She also feels it is important for everyone to learn something new every day, and build fulfilling relationships with those we spend time with through work or play.

Ruth enjoyed a very successful career in banking prior to her role as Nursery Director, for the most time working in the commercial sector as a Branch Manager, and a Relationship Manager for a wide range of businesses, including a nursery or two, and brings with her a wealth of business and management experience. Prior to that she had a career in Retail Management with WHSmith Ltd. Ruth has sound commercial and financial knowledge, and has sought career moves that challenge her skills base and give her opportunity to grow. She has practical parental experience, as well as direct experience with the children in Nursery, but mainly manages the business administration side of Young Discoverers. She is qualified in Paediatric First Aid, Food Safety, and Health and Safety. She has also returned to her studies on founding the Nursery to complete her NVQ level 4 in childcare.
