Northern Advanced Research Training Initiative (NARTI)
A Workshop on:
Leadership and your PhD: A self-coaching approach to making the PhD experience you want
21st April 2015

Beech Grove Room, University House, University of Leeds

What is it?

This is a one-day interactive, experiential workshop that aims to enable you to apply and develop self-leadership skills in you PhD. Through various coaching techniques that will challenge you to live your values and tap into your inner resources, the workshop will help you shape your PhD experience and take responsibility for what you get out of it. You will come out of the workshop with some introductory self-coaching tools as well as a commitment to make the changes that you identify as important.

Who for?

The workshop is for PhD students at any stage in their process. The workshop is for you if you want to take responsibility for getting more out of your PHD. Things may be going well and you want to push yourself further. Things maybe a struggle and you want a smoother ride. Or you may be ambitious and want motivating for that bit more. The agenda is yours and what we offer is a unique way of engagement to help you achieve your aspirations.

Outcomes

You will come away with:

  • more awareness of what you can take responsibility for in your PhD experience and strategies to put what you learn into action
  • basic self-coaching tools applicable throughout the PhD, and which also add to your employability skills portfolio
  • a commitment to put learning into practice through key actions identified.

Students from any discipline, institution and stage of their PhD can be involved in the workshop. Indeed, diversity encourages both sharing from each other’s experiences as well as challenging assumptions about what is possible.
