Book Talk

Due Date: Friday, September 15, 2017

You are required to complete a book talk assignment to present to your classmates and peers. A book talk is a 3 to 5-minute oral presentation using a book of your choice. Your goal is to convince your peers to read your recommended book. You will need to include a 2-4 paragraph summary to interest the audience, without giving away the important parts and the ending. Remember that the main purpose of a book talk is to grab the audience's interest and make them want to read the book.

Below is a list of suggested book talk presentations. You may choose one of the suggestions or come up with your own. If you choose to create your own presentation, you must get approval before producing a final draft. Your presentation must include a visual aid.

Do not forget to include a summary 2-4 paragraphs in length. You need to include the three key elements of a book talk: the hook, the content, and the cliffhanger.

Directions: Follow these step-by-step guidelines to write your Booktalk. Three key elements will help you: the hook, the content, and the cliffhanger.

The Hook

Present something that will grab the listener’s attention. Examples: read a part of the book, ask a question, give a description, or strong statement that will catch the class’s interest.

______

The Content

Get into the character. As the main character, you will explain and summarize the book. Be sure to include the main problem in the book (but DO NOT SHARE HOW IT IS RESOLVED.)

______

The Cliffhanger

End your book talk with something unresolved; leave your audience wanting more, so they will want to read the book to find out what happens next.
