You Found It!
Okay, but what exactly is “it?”
It’s a TerraCaching game piece (pronounced tare UH cashing).
TerraCaching is a high-tech treasure hunt played with a GPS.[1] This international sport has many flavors and styles. One "cacher" hides a cache, and then posts the geographic coordinates, possibly with some clues, on an internet listing service. Then other cachers hunt for that cache, logging their success on the same listing service.
What do I do now?
If the container was hidden and you stumbled upon it by accident, simply return it to its original state and location after you are done. Other players will be hunting for it in these precise coordinates. I’d also love it if you could email me at and tell me how you stumbled upon the cache. Logging a visit, even an accidental find, is part of the game. To that end, you should find a log book in this cache. Enter your name, the date, and a little bit of the story about how you came upon the cache. The other cachers will enjoy reading your entry.
If the container was not hidden or was not tightly sealed, please contact me at as soon as possible so that I can restore it to its proper location and condition. Do your best to hide it from plain view, but close by, and be sure it’s closed tightly.

Are there different kinds of caches?
TerraCaching is also known as geocaching, geostashing, GPS stash hunting, Global Positioning stash hunting, navicaching, or navistashing. There are also distinct variations of the sport known by the names Benchmark Hunting and Letterboxing.
For every type of geocacher there is a matching style of geocache. For some, the trade items in the container are the highlight of the hunt. For others it's discovering a picturesque location, or the journey before the find, or the physical challenge of reaching the cache, or the mental challenge of solving a puzzle cache.
Cache containers can range from virtual to tiny to large. Besides size differences the styles of caches include multi-caches or offset caches, puzzle or mystery caches, letterbox hybrids, webcam caches, event caches, locationless or reverse caches, and moving caches, plus distinctive cache items like hitchhikers, geocoins, and travel bugs. Then there are special cache games: Geodashing, Geo-Golf, GeoPoker, Minute War, etc. You can find out more about these games at
