You all know the fairy tale ‘De gouden bal’ I guess?
It’s the one in which a princess is playing with her golden ball in the garden when it falls into the pond. A frog helps her and retrieves the ball for her, but in return the princess has to invite him into the castle. She says yes because she wants the ball back and then forgets her promise because she thinks the frog is a slimy, dirty creature. The frog keeps her to her promise and in the end asks her to kiss him. She hates it, but when she finally kisses him, the frog becomes a very handsome prince.

The whole clue is that the princess only sees the animal, the filthy creature. She doesn’t see who he really is. Fortunately, they live happily ever after.

Het liedje gaat over een ‘upper class’ meisje dat niks te maken wil hebben met een jongen omdat hij er niet netjes uitziet. Uiteindelijk wordt de jongen een superster en zit zij alleen thuis. Ze heeft dus alleen naar het uiterlijk gekeken en niet naar wat er onder zat.
