ESTATE / OPERATIONS MANAGER (F/T)

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Project Director

LOCATION: Penllergare Valley Woods

RESPONSIBLE FOR: As part of the Project Team, assigned Volunteers and part time

Woodskeeper

JOB SUMMARY

Working as part of the site based team*, the Estate / Operations Manager is principally responsible for day to day operations in Valley Woods, direct works contracts and key local external relationships. Within this role the Estate / Operations Manager will support the Project Team to ensure coordination of project activities, site security and safety in Valley Woods.

KEY RESULT AREAS

Care and Maintenance

·  Ensure that all aspects of Valley Woods are subject to appropriate care and presentation as a safe functional and enjoyable place to work and visit

·  Ensure that historic and archaeological features and all aspects of the natural environment are appropriately protected and managed

Staff and Volunteers

·  Assist in the recruitment, induction and training of volunteers

·  Organise and supervise assigned volunteers

·  Organise and supervise the part time Woodskeeper as required

·  Encourage effective teamwork and collaborative action amongst staff and volunteers.

·  Foster open and effective communication amongst volunteers and between staff and volunteers.

Planning

·  Attend project and contract meetings as required.

·  Develop the Management Plan into a workable operations tool for the longer term

·  Develop work programmes, projects and plans in accordance with the Management Plan

·  Contribute to the development of future projects

Contracts

·  Source and allocate labour, materials and equipment for hard and soft landscape works

·  Schedule, procure and manage suppliers and contracts

·  Monitor main contractors to ensure safe and effective working

·  Support the Woodland Projects Warden in the organisation and delivery of woodland based projects in the Parks for People project

·  Keep records as required

Financial Management

·  Manage assigned project budgets

·  Maintain tight financial control and ensure value for money

·  Maintain financial records

·  Assist with projects to generate additional revenue for Valley Woods

·  Prepare budgets for non project work

·  Assist and on occasions take the lead in securing additional funds for work in Valley Woods

Local and Public Relations, and Marketing

·  Promote and develop excellent local community relations both on site and within neighbouring communities and with local groups and organisations, including the police and fire services

·  Assist with press and media visits as required, including interviews with TV and radio

·  Assist in the promotion of Penllergare Valley Woods as a place to support and visit

·  Lead guided tours and give talks to external groups as required

Compliance Management

·  Implementation of the Trust’s Health & Safety policy for all site activities including risk assessments

·  Ensure environmental compliance

Any other duties reasonably requested by the employer
