YES 2015

The Young Europeans’ Seminar (YES) 2015, taking place from 29 June to 3 July, is the year-end seminar for all YFU exchange students who are from Europe and who spent their exchange year in another European country. This summer about 500 students and more than 100 volunteers will take part in the seminar. The topic for the YES 2015 is “Human Rights in a Digitalized World”. For more information on the seminar and its topic, please consult the attached Description Letter.

Task description

  • The freestylers’ tasks are very diverse. Not all tasks will be carried out by the same person, thus, flexibility is the most important skill a freestyler should have;
  • Starting with setting up the decorations and preparing the premises as well as the plenary hall prior to the seminar, and helping to dismantle the same at the end;
  • Freestylers will have a range of interesting daily tasks. They are responsible for the key desk, safety and security on the premises, night watches as well as assisting with attendance and cafeteria checks. In addition they will also support the travel team on arrival and departure days. Therefore the working hours will be in shifts around the clock!
  • Sometimes the freestylers' help will be needed during the plenary sessions, during free time activities as well as in preparation of workshops, the YES Mega activity and other sessions;
  • Furthermore, freestylers support the YES Lounge team during peak hours by tending the bar and DJ’ing.

All in all, being a freestyler is a great opportunity to absorb the inspiring atmosphere at the YES in all its different shapes!

Criteria for selection

  • You should be a very responsible and reliable YFU volunteer, highly motivated, active and aware of possible night shifts;
  • It will benefit you if you know first aid, have a lifeguard certificate and/or have previous related experiences;
  • You should be 21 years of age or older to help us ensure safety and security at the YES 2015;
  • We will need some volunteers to arrive earlier and/ or stay later for dismantling the site after students depart, so please let us know of your possible arrival and departure dates in your application form (below);
  • Please note, that none of these criteria will solely be decisive, so even if you do not meet all the criteria, do not hesitate to apply.

Information on costs, deadlines and the application process

  • Your travel costs (upon receipt) to and from the YES 2015, accommodation and food expenses will be covered from the YES budget;
  • Please complete the attached application form and return it to your national organization by 21 February 2015[1] - they will forward all applications received to the YES Team. The Freestyler Coordinators will select all freestylers after consulting with the Logistics and Content Team members, taking into consideration a balance of language, gender, and experience. A balance between volunteers with and without the YES experience will be ensured.

We are looking forwards to receiving your application!

On behalf of the International Organizing Team,

Valentina Razvan Ieva

YES Project Coordinator Content Team Coordinator Logistics Team Leader
