Dear Parent/Carer
Year 6 Visit to the Houses of Parliament: Friday 8th July 2016
We are pleased to present a unique and exciting opportunity for pupils in Year 6 from both Follifoot and Spofforth to visit London. This visit will provide pupils with the chance to visit and learn from and about some of our country’s most historic and iconic landmarks and experience parliament first hand.
Over the course of the day we aim for children to visit:
- Westminster Abbey
- The Cenotaph
- Downing Street
- Trafalgar Square
- Horseguards’ Parade
- BuckinghamPalace
- Houses of Parliament (including a tour)
A full itinerary of the day will follow in due course.
The children will be accompanied by staff and governors from both schools. We will aim to leave in the morning promptly at 7.15am and anticipate returning at around 11.30pm.
We appreciate that this is a long day but it is a valuable opportunity to experience these national landmarks, learning first hand about history and heritage. We have chosen a bus over the train as although the travelling time is slightly longer, using a coach offers us a door to door service and it will have a toilet on board. We have organised the trip on a Friday so that the children can rest over the weekend. This trip is entirely optional with no obligation for children to go.
The cost of transport for this visit has been subsidised by the government’s education department, meaning that the total contribution we ask from parents/carers is just £15.00. We feel that this offers incredible value for money.
A second letter will be sent out to you closer to the visit providing final details. In order to include your child on this trip, please complete and return the consent form before Friday 29th April. If you have any questions about the visit, please speak to Mr Griffiths, Mrs James or Miss McIntosh in school or via e-mail at or
Yours sincerely
