YEAR 10 HISTORY COURSE 1 PROGRAM 2018

OVERVIEW:

In Year 10 Humanities and Social Sciences consists of Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Geography and History.In Year 10, students will study these on a rotational basis, spending 8 weeks on each topic with a specialist teacher during Terms 1-3. In Term 4, all students will study the History World War Two topic.

Students develop increasing independence in critical thinking and skill application, which includes questioning, researching, analysing, evaluating, communicating and reflecting. They apply these skills to investigate events, developments, issues and phenomena, both historical and contemporary.

Students develop their historical understanding through key concepts,includingevidence,continuityandchange,cause and effect, perspectives,empathy,significanceandcontestability. These concepts are investigated within the historical context of themodernworld and Australia from 1918 to the present, with an emphasis on Australia in its global context.

/ Students to understand some of the key terms of The Treaty of Versailles and the impact this had on Germany.
Students to understand the main feature of the Roaring Twenties and main causes of the Great Depression and the impact this had on many Germans.

Students to understand policies of the NAZI party leading to expansion and invasion of surrounding European countries.
Students to understand how the failure of the policy of Appeasement led to WW2.

4 / An examination of significant events of World War II, including the Holocaust and use of the atomic bomb (ACDSEH107) / Students to understand the spread of anti-Semitism and formation of ghettos in Germany and Poland.
Students to understand the purpose of and conditions in Concentration camps.
Students to understand the scale and significance of the Holocaust.
5 / An examination of significant events of World War II, including the Holocaust and use of the atomic bomb (ACDSEH107) / Students to understand reasons why Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and the impact of this.
6 / The experiences of Australians during World War II, such as prisoners of war (POWs), the Battle of Britain, Kokoda and the fall of Singapore (ACDSEH108)
The impact of World War II, with a particular emphasis on the Australian home front, including the changing roles of women and use of wartimegovernmentcontrols (e.g. conscription, manpower controls, rationing, censorship) (ACDSEH109) / Students to examine Australian involvement in the war in Kokoda and the reason for this involvement and conditions faced in this battle.
