REGULAR BOARD MEETING
SEPTEMBER 10, 2007

ALL MINUTES OF THE YANTIS ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES’ MEETING ARE CONSIDERED UNOFFICIAL UNTIL APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AT A SUBSEQUENT REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING.
The Yantis Board of Trustees met in a regular session in the Yantis Cafeteria, on September 10, 2007 with the following members present: Shannon Young – President, Mike Kenney – Vice President, Ron McKinney – Secretary, Corey Ogle, and Perry Shirley. Bo West and Boyd McCreight were absent.
Others present at the meeting were: Harold Cowley - Superintendent, Kevin White - HS Principal, Steve Scott – Elementary Principal, Lisa Burchfield - Business Manager, Wilbur Calloway – Wood County Democrat, Kristi Beech, Joy Shirley, Larry Tucker, and Angie Brown.
President Shannon Young called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Invocation was by Steve Scott.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Corey Ogle.
President’s Comments
Shannon Young reminded board members of a school board training to be held on September 11, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the blue room.
Public Comments
None
Consent Agenda
Mike Kenney made a motion to accept the minutes from the previous board meetings held on August 6, 2007, August 13, 2007, August 17, 2007, August 30, 2007, and August 31, 2007, as well as the monthly bills as presented. Corey Ogle seconded the motion.
Motion Carried 4-0-1 Perry Shirley abstained from voting on the minutes as he was absent from the meetings.
Financial Report
Lisa Burchfield presented the financial report to the board.
Superintendent’s Report
Mr. Cowley and Steve Scott recognized local churches, such as Yantis First Baptist, Lake Fork Baptist, and County Line Baptist, for their recent donations of school supplies
Substitute Additions
Ron McKinney made a motion to approve the September additions, Allen Pendergast and Cynthia Spangler, to the Substitute Teacher List. Mike Kenney seconded.
Motion Carried 5-0-0
Wood County 4-H
Mike Kenney made a motion to adopt the resolution recognizing Wood County 4-H Club as an extracurricular organization under 19 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 76.1. Shannon Young seconded.
Motion Carried 5-0-0
DEC Local Policy
Ron McKinney proposed changes to DEC Local as it pertains to leaves of absence. There was discussion among board members concerning the proposed changes and the effective date of them. Perry Shirley made a motion to table the topic until TASB legal services can review and revise the policy. Ron McKinney seconded.
Motion Carried 5-0-0
DBB Local Policy
Mr. Cowley recommended that the board delete the portion of DBB Local Policy as it pertains to TB testing requirements as the state has already dropped the requirement. Ron McKinney made a motion to delete the portion of DBB Local policy as it pertains to TB testing. Shannon Young seconded.
Motion Carried 5-0-0
No Pass No Play Course Exemption
Mike Kenney made a motion to approve the resolution exempting the list of honors classes from the No Pass No Play rules. Ron McKinney seconded. There was much discussion concerning the importance of academics and what courses would be exempt.
Motion Carried 3-2-0 Shannon Young, Ron McKinney, and Mike Kenney voted in favor. Perry Shirley and Corey Ogle opposed.
Employment of Additional Personnel
Shannon Young made a motion to employ Judy Dunavin in the YISD cafeteria, Eva Hodges as Pre-kindergarten aide, and Phillip Poarch as special education aide for the 2007-2008 school year. Mike Kenney seconded.
Motion Carried 5-0-0
