Yantis ISD Grading Guidelines

Middle School Campus (6th – 8th Grades)

  • Grades should be accurate and up-to-date and reflected in the online gradebook by Monday of the following week.
  • A minimum of two grades per week shall be taken.
  • Late work will be accepted up to two days late but a maximum grade of 70 can be received.
  • Extra credit may be done at the teacher’s discretion.
  • Retests/corrections can be allowed at the teacher’s discretion.
  • Grading in all classes will be classified into two categories: daily / homework and test / major grades.

Daily / Homework50%

  • In-class assignments
  • Quizzes
  • Homework
  • TAKS practice (Study Island)
  • Group work
  • Participation

Test / Major Grades 50%

(Minimum of two per six week period)

  • Major exams
  • Essays / Research Papers
  • Major Projects
  • TAKS Benchmarks may be entered into either category. However, TAKS benchmarks entered as major grades do not count as one of the two required major assessments.
  • Any grade related to a benchmark should be scaled to reflect the performance of the group
  • All Middle School Students are required to take the semester exams per the semester exam policy outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Any courses taken at the middle school level for high school credit will be graded according to the High School Grading Guidelines

High School Campus (9th-12th)

  • Grades should be accurate and up-to-date and reflected in the online grade book by Monday of the following week.

  • All assignments will be given the equal credit and weight. The teacher will communicate to students when a particular project or assignment will be counted more than a daily grade.
