Quick Guide

Covering sailing and motor yachts, registration is free for any boat owner, whereupon users can create an online boat profile in their chosen language including all components on board and their state of repair. This facilitates the development of an integral maintenance plan for the boat. As a boat is used, wear and tear impacts all moving parts e.g. sails stretch, hatches, windows and joints leak, canvas covers get torn and running lines degrade. The profile can be continually updated to reflect this degradation.

With YACHTONUS.com, the owner can safely give services suppliers access to this online profile enabling them to update the configuration, the corresponding maintenance plan and schedule essential tasks in the future. A brief overview of the boat can be shared easily via an email link.

Users can review the highest rated advice for items on board, raise questions with fellow boat owners and specialists as well as accessing required products or services with the click of a mouse. The service is currently being expanded to offer an online comparison against pre-defined profiles for boat safety and offshore racing regulations.

Alex Dowdalls, General Manager, YACHTONUS.com, identified a gap in the market for an international web based yacht management service focused on the needs of owners and started by choosing the website’s name.

This has become a talking point across nationalities with the original idea stemming from the Latin term ‘ONUS’ for responsibility of your yacht and ‘TONUS’ which implies maintaining the fitness or tone of your yacht to Spanish, Italian and French users.

The Process

Founder Biography

Alex Dowdalls founded YACHTONUS.com during 2011. A keen boater himself, Alex has been yachting since he was 10 years old originally learning in dinghies around the west coast of Scotland. Now a proud owner of a 45ft yacht Alex aspires to complete a passage along the UK, French, Netherlands and Belgian coasts as well as sailing to Norway and crossing the Atlantic.

With an engineering background understanding the design, build and operation of boats is a strong passion. During many years experiencing charter of motor and sailing boats around the world Alex never had the gift of a boat where all components actually functioned and some of the boats even lacked basic safety features.

This sparked the concept of YACHTONUS.com, where online yacht management can be effective in maintaining all of a yacht’s components, including the essential safety features.

YACHTONUS.com Reinvents Boat Maintenance with Launch of Online Yacht Management

Yacht maintenance is a certainty across all marine models and is essential for value preservation and safety. Planning the upkeep of sailing and motor yachts requires an ongoing commitment and an intimate understanding of the yacht to ensure it is prepared for the voyage that lies ahead. YACHTONUS.com is a completely new service launching within the marine world this month, which for the first time enables owners to proactively manage their yacht online, preventing component failure and reducing the risk and cost involved with boating.

Alex Dowdalls, General Manager, YACHTONUS.com, identified a gap in the market for an international web based yacht management service focused on the needs of owners and started by choosing the website’s name which originates from the Latin term ‘ONUS’ for responsibility:

‘YACHTONUS.com starts a new era for yacht management and puts the element of fun back into yacht ownership, giving owners reassurance that their boat is well managed. Recently maintenance has been far more scrutinised by yacht owners as boats become more complex requiring help from multiple suppliers whilst budgets tighten. Owners have gone back to basics and looked at doing some jobs personally as well as seeking a way to follow specific advice online from more creditable and value orientated suppliers’.

The pleasure of yacht ownership will be revived through building an online profile that includes the configuration of the yacht, the state of repair of the components on board and an integral maintenance schedule. YACHTONUS.com is easy to use and caters to a wide range of languages.
