DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Courses:

Additional Responsibilities include: Advise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students; advise undergraduate and graduate student organizations; present guest lectures, participate in college- and university-wide courses; participate in recruitment, retention, and placement activities; participate in teaching outcomes assessment, instructional improvement, and teaching scholarship (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, textbooks, software, extended education lesson plans and modules). Expectations also include communication of scholarly outputs at conferences and meetings, efforts to obtain external grants to support teaching programs, and development of innovative teaching methods. Contributions to the unit and college’s distance education are encouraged as appropriate.

Service in the Academic Appointment: Consultation with public programs (exhibits and outreach) in the department and public relations (e.g., giving public lectures and writing popular articles). Opportunities exist for cooperative teaching activities in K-12 education. Contribute to University, Institute, College and Department programs through service on committees.

Research

Conduct basic research in the general area of xxxxxx with emphasis on xxxxxx. The faculty member is expected to publish research results in scholarly literature and to seek external funding in support of research. The incumbent is expected to prepare a research project outline that is approved by ARD and USDA and present results from the research project at national and international scientific meetings.

Extension

Interface with various specialists to promote the wise use of mineral, petroleum, and other natural resources; provide instructional and educational support for local, state, and federal government, the public, and extension educators.

University Service(requires release time from Teaching, Research, or Extension; FYI - participation in faculty meetings, spring assembly, and fall research colloquium is approx. 2%)

Serve on or chair SNR, UNL, and University committees; hold leadership position or serve on local, state, and national boards, committees, and other professional organizations outside of the University community.

In addition to the above-described duties, the individual will be expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the Administrative Unit, College/Division, Institute, and or University level.
