[ ] Demolishing/disturbing [ ] Sacking/patching

[ ] Drilling [ X ] Sweeping/cleaning up

[ ] Grinding [ ] Other:

Describe the specific tasks that will be performed that involve exposure to

respirable crystalline silica: Saw cutting masonry units as needed

Describe the specific equipment (including all components) that will be used on

the job: 14" gas-powered saw with integrated water delivery system. 14” gas-powered saw with integrated vacuum system.

Work Practice Controls (check all that apply):

Wet cutting:

[ X ] Operate and maintain tools in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions

[X ] Check flow rates to minimize release of visible dust

[ X ] Ensure spray nozzle is working properly

[ X ] Apply water at the point of dust generation

[X ] Check spray nozzle and hoses to ensure they are not clogged or damaged

[ X ] Check all hoses and connections to ensure they are intact

[X ] Rinse or replace water filters as needed

[ X ] Replace water when it gets gritty or begins to silt up with dust

[ X ] Other: Notice to other jobsite personnel regarding mortar mixing operations

Vacuum Dust Collection System:

[ ] Operate and maintain tools in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions

[ ] Check shrouds and hoses to ensure they are not clogged or damaged

[ ] Check all hoses and connections to ensure they are intact

[ ] Ensure that the vacuum has enough suction to capture dust at the cutting point

[ ] Change or clean filter(s) in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions

[ ] Empty dust collection bags often to avoid overfilling

[ ] Keep blade flush against the surface whenever possible

[ ] Other:

Describe the work practice controls that will be used on the job: Saw operators

will cut with water applied to the masonry cutting surface. Should the units' IWD be nonfunctional, then water will be applied to the cutting surface continuously via a handheld pump-sprayer. The mortar mixing station will be setup in a wind-friendly, restricted access area. Available dust shielding accessories will also be used most efficiently reduce the amount of airborne dust escaping from the release of the dry goods from the silo to the mixer. Other personnel on the jobsite will be notified of the potential hazard present from the mortar-mixing operation, and be warned of the restricted area.

Respirator Protection (check all that apply):

[ X ] “N-95” filtering facepiece respirator [ ] Powered air-purifying respirator

[ ] Half-facepiece elastomeric respirator [ ] Other:

[ ] Full-face elastomeric respirator

Describe the specific respirators that will be used to limit employee exposure:

Employee will use the N95 respirator at the mixing station, and when performing any

cutting where an integrated water delivery system is not feasible

Housekeeping Controls (check all that apply):

[X ] Wet sweeping of work surfaces [X ] No dry sweeping

[ ] Use Sweeping compound [ ] No compressed air

[ ] HEPA-filtered vacuuming of work surfaces

[ X ] Other: Wind consideration

[ ] Dispose of used vacuum bags in a container

Describe the specific housekeeping measures that will be used to limit employee

exposure: Employees will be considerate of wind conditions when performing any

tasks where airborne silica may be present, and will notify other trades of masonry operations that may pose ambient risk, including demarcating restricted area for this

operation.

Restrict Access (check all that apply):

[X ] Schedule certain tasks when others are not around

[ X ] Post warning signs, cones or barrier tape

[X ] Tell employees to stay out of areas where dust is generated if they do not need to

be in the area

[ X ] Move employees to areas where they are not exposed to dust if possible

[ ] Other:

Describe the specific procedures to restrict access to work areas to minimize the

number of employees exposed to silica dust: Caution tape will be used to delineate

restricted zone around the mortar mixing operation. If conditions exist that otherwise

risks exposure to other jobsite personnel, formal communication will be facilitated via

the jobsite Superintendent.
