Writing Guidance
- Grade level Portfolio –Purpose – to reflect on and choose one’s best writing to pass on to the next teacher and school year. Includes the student’s best writing from the year including narrative, opinion, informative, and reflective writing, constructed response samples, and a handwriting sample. The grade level portfolio only includes finished/near finished pieces.
- Working writing folder – Purpose – to provide teacher and student an opportunity to reflect on growth across pieces, genres, content areas, etc. Includes multiple samples and drafts of the writing listed above that will be used to select writing for the grade level portfolio; does not need to include finished pieces.
- Writing journals, notebooks, etc – Purpose – provide a space for drafting, writing, drawings, organizers, etc. This is where the writing that will end up in the folders listed above gets done.
