Below you will find your assignments for next week. We will go over the assigned pages in class, so please complete them as best as you can before class. If you want credit for the homework assignments, you will need to come to class where we will talk about them and go over the answers. In addition, if you want assistance with any of these assignments, the College Skills Zone staff are happy to help.

Tuesday Meet in IA 217. Due at the start of class:

  • Review and study pages 11 to 14.

□ Do exercises 1-10 on page 16.

  • Review and study page 17: Quick Clues: Non-Action Verbs.
  • Read page 23. Know the comma usage rule for items in a series.

□ Do exercises 1-5 on page 24.

□ Do exercises 1-5 on page 26.

□ Bring your spiral notebook; you will be writing in your journal today

By Tuesday---For full credit, last week’s workshop exercises should be completed, checked, and turned in at the College Skills Zone.

Wednesday: Meet in WH 225 for a workshop.

  • Bring your course packet.

Thursday: Meet in IA 217: Due at the start of class:

□ Do exercises 11-15 on page 25: Compound Subjects and Compound Verbs.

□ Do exercises 1-5 on page 28: Commas with Items in a Series.

  • Study the Quick Clues over Prepositions on pages 35 and 36.

□ Do exercises 1-5 on page 37.

  • Study the Quick Clues over Coordinating Conjunctions found on pages 53- 55.
  • Know the meaning of BOYSFAN or FANBOYS.

□ Do exercise 1-10 on page 56: Simple Sentence or Compound Sentence.

Thursday: Meet in WH 222 (computer classroom).

  • Be able to access your LBCC email account.
  • I will return your paper from week one for your feedback and revision.
  • I will also hand out an email assignment that will be due by the end of the week.
  • Be prepared to show me your journal at the beginning of class for a journal check. Please do not use class time to finish your journal as we will be working on other assignments, and for this reason, I am only willing to check journals at the beginning of class. If you didn’t get your journal done this week, you can make it up by writing six pages next week. Journals more than two weeks overdue earn no credit. Remember to write a minimum of three full pages in your journal. If your handwriting is especially large, if you like to place lots of space between words, or if you like to skip lines, then you will need to write more than three pages for full credit.
