LOGLINE:

When a rough-and-tumble boy from an abusive home, Jack, and fellow scouts come across the infamous DB Cooper on a Boy Scout trip, a world of opportunity opens up. DB, bloody and battered from a bad parachute landing, attempts to bribe the boys to save his life and help him escape with the $200,000 ransom he took from the plane he hijacked. Jack recognizes this opportunity to escape the clutches of his abusive father, but wrestles with the moral implications of taking advantage of the dying outlaw’s situation.

CAST BREAKDOWNS:

CHARACTER / AGE / GENDER / ETHNICITY / EMOTIONALITY
JACK / 13-15 / M / CAUCASIAN / Disheveled hair, shirt tucked, but dirt on his jeans. He wants to take pride in his appearance, but his father’s negligence in the home makes it difficult to do so. Jack is a troubled boy and an instigator who cares about his younger brother SAM, but wants to come across as tough-- like he doesn’t need anyone. In actuality, he is willing to do anything to get him and his brother out of their house. There is a nurturing quality to him that always looks out for the underdog. Traditional morality only matters to the point where it no longer serves his ultimate desire—to leave home and protect his brother. (LEAD)
SAM / 9-11 / M / CAUCASIAN / Sam is the youngest of the three scouts, and is brothers with JACK, who is his idol. Frail and insecure, he is small even for his age. Expressive eyes as he has not spoken a word since his mother died a year and a half ago. This makes him an easy target for his peers to pick on him and for his father to victimize him. He is dependent on his brother, JACK, who is the only person he can trust. Ultimately, he just wants to feel safe and secure. (LEAD)
BRYAN / 13-15 / M / OPEN TO ALL / All American type, solid build, athletic. Seen as being straight-laced and by the book. Hair combed, dressed up to scout code perfectly, because his parents make sure of it. He wants to be in charge of his own person, his own fate, but does not feel like he has the freedom to do so. This shows in his occasional attempts to prove that he is more than a goody two-shoes. He admires JACK’s fierce independence and ability to buck authority. (LEAD)
D.B. COOPER / 35-40 / M / CAUCASIAN / Tall, slender build, dark hair, and traditionally handsome. A Cary Grant-type with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. A highly trained military veteran who was cheated by the system and a powerful negotiator. He’s set out to stick it to the man and get payback against the U.S. military after he was forced out of service. D.B. Cooper is tough by necessity but clever and charismatic from birth, which helped him pull off the heist of the century. (1 SCENE, 18 LINES)
JACK/SAM’S FATHER / 38 - 45 / M / CAUCASIAN / Dominating presents, medium build. Tough, alcoholic, emotionally fragile. A veteran who still cannot process what he went through during the war in Vietnam. He is unkempt with oil stains on his shirt from the car shop. Strong hands that he tends to use to evoke fear on those around him. Doesn’t shave and liquor lingers on his breath. Always on the edge of an outburst, he feels the need to be in control of his surroundings and does so through lording over those who are around him. Due to proximity, his two boys fall victim to his anger the most. Verbally and emotionally abusive. (1 SCENE, 5 LINES)
