Write your own Siren Song!

We know that the Sirens’ song is powerful and tempting, even before we meet them. There are also many appealing elements of the song that appeal to Odysseus. What do you think the Sirens would be like for you?How might the Sirens tempt you if they wanted you to come and stay?

Assignment:

You must:

  • Find an APPROPRIATE song that represents something that the Sirens would use to lure you to their island (and ultimately your death)
  • Print the lyrics
  • Write a three paragraph meaningful reflection in which you describe:
  • Your song choice
  • Why the song choice is attractive to you
  • Possible connections to The Odyssey

Assessment:

You will be assessed according to:

  • The quality of your song choice
  • The quality of your reflection
  • The connections made

Rubric:

  • Level 4 - The student exceeds assignment requirements. The assignment is done exceptionally well; there is evidence of originality and/or extra effort in the completion.
  • Level 3 - The assignment is completed, the work is done well, and the student followed all directions correctly.
  • Level 2 - Either the assignment is only partially completed, the work is not very neat, the student followed some but not all of the directions, or there is some combination of these factors.
  • Level 1 - The assignment is less than 50% complete, and/or the student did not follow the directions.
