Protocols: “Go”, “Freeze”

·  “Place in hoop”- students will place their equipment in their hula hoop

Set Induction- “ Who can raise their hand and me some objects we can strike with? That’s great. Today we are going to be using our hands and our paddles. First I am going to go over the stations and then we are going to get started. Don’t forget we have task cards so lets make sure we read them.

Description / Instruction / Organization
Activity 1- Students will be in a line hitting toward the fence. They will be bouncing the volleyball and then striking it with their hand. They will be aiming to make it through the hula hoop / Activity 1- “At station one we are going to be bouncing the volleyball and then hitting it with our hand on the way down. Try and get the ball through the hula-hoop. At station two we are going to be placing the gator ball on the bucket or cone and striking the ball with our hand. Try and hit the fence. At station three we are going to try and hit the yarn balls into any hula-hoop we pick. Pick one before you hit so you have a place to aim. At station four we are going t to be balancing the ball on the paddle and walking forward to this line and then walk backward. Once we have done that try it at a different level. Challenge you self by volleying the ball on the paddle, and then trying to walk. Now that I have given you a number I would like you to find the station with the matching number. Now please read you task card and begin your task. Ready Go. Freeze. Great job okay lets freeze again. ONE! Place your equipment back. TWO! Point to your next station. THREE! Move to your station” / Activity 1- Station one organization. Students will be lined facing the fence.

Activity 2- Station two will have five cones and five buckets. Students will place a ball on their bucket or cone and try to strike it off with their hand. They will be aiming toward the fence and certain X’s / Activity 2- “Ready Go. Make sure we ready our task cards! Freeze. One! Place your equipment back in the hoop. Two! Point to your next station. Three! Move to your next station. Great job thank you. Ready go!” / Activity 2- Organization for station two. Students will be facing the fence.

Activity 3- Station three will have hula-hoops lined all around on the ground. Students will choose a poly spot and a paddle. Students will then hit a yarn ball and try to make it land in a hula-hoop. They can choose a far hula-hoop or a close hula-hoop in order to make their effort vary. / Activity 3- “Ready go! Make sure we are trying the challenges! Freeze. One! Two! Three! /

Activity 3- Organization for station three. Students are positioned so they can strike a yarn ball into a hula-hoop.

Activity 4- Station four will have students balance a ball on their paddle and walk up to a certain point. When students get to that particular point they then have to walk backwards. After students have completed the task they will walk at a low level, and a high level (on tip toes). Students can then try to volley the ball once they have completed all the tasks. / Activity 4- “ Ready go! Don’t forget to read our station cards. Freeze. One! Two! Three! / Activity 4- Organization for station four. Students are in a line walking forward and backward

Culminating Activity- “Now I would like you to choose the station that you enjoyed the most. Ready go. If there is not enough equipment at that station please move on to another station.”

Challenges and refinements: Students will be challenged on the task card. Each task card will have a different challenge. Station one will have the challenge to use both right and left hands and still be able to make it into the hula-hoop. Station two’s challenge will be to count how many times the students were able to hit the X with their right hand, and then their left. Station three’s challenge will be to see if they can get all of their balls into a different hula hoop. Station four’s challenge will be to try the station using all of the different balls presented.

Closure- Great job today everyone. What was one important cue that we worked on when we were in our stations? That’s right we worked on Striking with out hand and an implement. What was one thing that was very important at station four? That’s right we had to have good balance. What was easier to strike with our hands or the paddles? Well great job today I will see you all on Friday!”
