PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP Join All the Glorious Names arr. by Larry Shackley
Please take this time to quietly meditate on the following Scripture passage as you prepare your heart to worship the Lord.
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Zechariah 9:9 (ESV)
*HYMN OF PRAISE #235 All Glory, Laud, And Honor
The Call To Worship exhorts God’s people to turn from worldly distractions and to focus hearts, minds,
and actions on revering Him. God calls us from all other preoccupations to join the people He has
redeemed in recognition, praise, and service of His omnipresent glory.
*CALL TO WORSHIP Various Gospel Texts (ESV)
As God’s Word calls us to worship, let’s shout these words to one another recognizing that our worship is a response to God’s gracious call.
Pastor: When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives,
the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen.
Men: Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!
Pastor: This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
Women: “Say to the Daughter of Zion, ‘See your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey’”
CHOIR: Hosanna to the Son of David!
Men: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
CHOIR: Hosanna in the highest!
Women: Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!
Children: Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the King of Israel!
ALL: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

Hosanna, Hosanna! Sing praises!
Blessed is he who comes;
Sing praises to God in the highest;
Hosanna, the Savior has come!
One deliverer comes to save us;
Shout hosanna, your praises bring!
Our Messiah, the long-awaited One;
Bow before the coming King!
REFRAIN
All hail King Jesus! All hail Emmanuel!
King of kings, Lord of lords,
Bright Morning Star.
And through all eternity
I'll sing your praises;
And I'll reign with you throughout eternity.
*For those who are able, please stand.
*PRAYER OF ADORATION & THE LORD’S PRAYER
(At the conclusion of the prayer of adoration, you are encouraged to join in the Lord’s Prayer)
Unison: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
As the music of the gospel, our songs offer us instruction and expression.
Whether psalm or hymn, old or new, we sing about the truth of God, and we sing to the God of truth!
*WORSHIP IN SONG You Are My King
Blessed Be Your Name
The call to confession invites us to honest expression within the context of our covenant relationship with God.
God’s grace comes to us, creating a relationship with us in Christ in which honesty about our sin is welcome and safe.
We confess our sin not in order for God to forgive us but because God has forgiven us in Christ. The call to confession, therefore, is a word of grace like the assurance of pardon, not an exercise that shames us into confession.
CALL TO CONFESSION 1 John 1:6-7 (ESV)
If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in the darkness, we lie and
do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
After the public confession below, you are encouraged to confess your sins silently to God.
O Lord, who on this day entered the rebellious city that later rejected you, we confess that our wills are as rebellious as Jerusalem’s, that our faith is often more show than substance, that our hearts are in need of cleansing. Have mercy on us, Son of David, Savior of our lives. Help us to lay at your feet all that we have and all that we are, trusting you to forgive what is sinful, to heal what is broken, to welcome our praises, and to receive us as your own. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
COMFORT AND ASSURANCE OF THE GOSPEL Colossians 1:13-14 (ESV)
He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to
the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
*CONFESSION OF FAITH Westminster Confession, Larger Catechism, Question #45
Pastor: How does Christ execute the office of a king?
People: Christ executes the office of a king, in calling out of the world a people to himself, and giving them officers, laws and censures, by which he visibly governs them; in bestowing saving grace upon his elect, rewarding their obedience, and correcting them for their sins, preserving and supporting them under all their temptations and sufferings, restraining and overcoming all their enemies, and powerfully ordering all things for his own glory, and their good; and also in taking vengeance on the rest, who know not God, and obey not the gospel.
*GREETING OF PEACE Luke 2:14 (ESV)
Please take this opportunity to greet those around you, offering them the right hand of fellowship and the peace which is only found in Christ.
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!
CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER Ephesians 6:18 (ESV)
[Pray] at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
WORSHIPING THE LORD WITH HIS TITHES AND OUR OFFERINGS James 1:17 (ESV)
Please take a moment to sign our “Fellowship Pad” and pass it along to those worshiping with you. Thank you!
The offering is a vital part of our response to God and God’s Word. It helps us connect our adoration for God with our life of discipleship.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
OFFERTORY Hosanna! by Rob Stain
*For those who are able, please stand.
They praised you for what they wanted to see
Not for who you were, not for who you came here to be
They praised you, hoping you yielded a sword
But unarmed, you came here to bear so much more
Oh my God!
The tears must have poured from your eyes
These same praising lips would be soon yelling crucify
Hosanna, Hosanna, Glory in the highest, Hosanna
At first they worshiped you with ease
But when they heard why you’d come, their worshiped quickly ceased
Oh my God!
The tears must have poured from your eyes
These same praising lips would be soon yelling crucify
Hosanna, Hosanna, Glory in the highest, Hosanna
The guilt of my sin, a burden I need your grace
By your death on the cross, you have taken my place
Oh my God!
The tears must have poured from your eyes
These same praising lips would be soon yelling crucify
Hosanna, Hosanna, Glory in the highest, Hosanna
*For those who are able, please stand.
SCRIPTURE READING (page 847 in pew Bible) Mark 11:1-11
SERMON “Hosanna In The Highest!”
Rev. Dave Stain
Pastor, Spring Hills Presbyterian Church
*CLOSING HYMN #604 Rejoice, Ye Pure In Heart
The greeting from God at the beginning of a service and God’s blessing at the end of the service frame the entire
worship liturgy. Just as we begin with God’s gracious invitation, so we end with God’s promise to always be with us.
In the benediction the dialogue of worship shifts from the people’s response to God’s parting words. The words
of benediction (a Latin word meaning “to speak well” or “to speak a good word”) are intended to bring a blessing.
