Worshiping God the Proper Way

Numbers is about a journey to the land promised by God. Key phrase is “set-out” – used 27 times.

Numbers is also about worship of God.

I Corinthians 14:40

Numbers is a part of the Torah (the Law). The Pentateuch is first 5 books of the Bible. It is a desert book , It is called by the Jews Bemidbar, because on their journey they spend so much time in the wilderness.

Numbers is a book of two generations:Numbers 1 is first generation.Numbers 26 is second generation

Numbers technically covers 38 years after they came out of Egypt.

Numbers 1:1 – “…on the first of the second month, in the second year”

Men were numbered from 20 years and above. The Levites were not included. They numbered 603,550 men.

Numbers 7:1 – first month of the second year – It precedes Numbers 1:1by one month. You will see the same thing in Numbers 9:1.

Numbers 10:11 – The cloud moves and they begin their journey.

Numbers 2 - God speaks to Aaron and Moses. He gives instructions on how to set up camp.

Numbers 3 – Gives an account of the sons of Aaron and the sons of Leviand their duties.

Numbers 3:5-9 – Each one in the Tribe of Levi has his own responsibility.

Numbers 3:10 - God appoints Aaron and sons to priesthood.

Numbers 3:14-16 -Levites are numbered (one month and upward).

Numbers 3:21-26 – Gershonites

Numbers 3:27-32 – Kohathites

Numbers 3:33-36 – Merarites

Numbers 3 – God has a specific calling for each one of us.

Numbers 3:10 – If layman came near, he was put to death,

Numbers 4 – Levites are numbered in this census.

Numbers 4:15 - If the Kohathites touched the Holy objects, they would die.

Numbers 4:19-20 -We must worship Him in spirit and truth.

I Chronicles 13:3 -David comes to power.

Numbers 5 - Speaks of an undefiled camp and the Law of Jealousy.

Numbers 5:2-3 – God’s presence is in the center of the camp. Camp is set up in 12 Tribes and four segments. Each one has a standard.

Two Things to Do When You Sin:

1. Confess – name it for what it is.

2. Make restitution and pay back what you own and add one-fifth.

Committing any act of sin is an act unfaithfulness against the Lord.

Numbers 5:6 – Sin is against true worship

Numbers 5:11:28 - Law of Jealousy. If there is infidelity in a marriage, that infidelity is to be judged.

Malachi 3 - God hates divorce.
