Call to Worship

When the new day of the Lord is established, what a joyful day that will be!

God shall wipe away every tear!
Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more.
For God will bring new life and hope to all on the day of God’s coming.
God will give water to the thirsting soul.
God will pour God’s abundant blessings on all the people.

*Hymn No. 151 “Crown Him with Many Crowns” diademata

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession

O God, we confess our pride that dares not admit wrong;
selfishness that can see nothing but our own will;
righteousness that knows no fault;
callousness that has ceased to care;
defiance that does not regret sins;
evasion that always tries to make excuses;
coldness of heart, too hardened to repent.
God, we are sinners; be merciful to us.

Silent Prayer

Assurance of God’s Forgiveness

God makes all things new.

Whoever is in Christ is a new creation.
Friends, believe the gospel:

in Jesus Christ we are loved, we are blessed, we are forgiven.

Thanks be to God!

Offertory Anthem “Lay Up Your Treasures in Heaven” Pepper Choplin

Westminster Choir

Ruth Bailis, soloist

“Lay up your treasures in heaven, O people, lay up your treasures in glory where nothing in this world can take them away.” O listen, people, hear the Master say, “You treasures in this world will fade away, but the things of the Lord will last forevermore!”

Well, the Lord looked out and saw the people there,

tied up in worry and burdened with care.

He said, “Seek first the kingdom and you will see

the things that will last for eternity!”

Some people trust in their silver and gold,

they put their faith in the wealth they hold.

But fortunes will fade and kingdoms fall,

so put your trust in the Lord of all!

Adult Education Classes

This Morning, 10:10 – 11:00 a.m.

Steadfast Hope – Classroom 6 – through May 16, Greg Jones

We will examine the struggle for peace in Israel/Palestine using a resource of the Israel/Palestine Mission Network of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and Encounter Point, an award-winning documentary. Over the past four decades, the U.S. has provided unwavering support for Israel. Recently, our government has signaled that to find a just peace, new policies must be put in place to answer Palestinian grievances along with Israel's need for security.

The Presbyterian Church has had a presence in the Middle East since the early 1800s and has continually sought peace and justice in the region. This summer the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) will receive the report of the Middle East Study Committee. The committee's mandate was "to prepare a comprehensive study, with recommendation, that is focused on Israel/Palestine within the complex context of the Middle East."

The Stages of Faith; the Psychology of Human Development – Rodney Chapel – through May 9

Session 3 -The Impact of Concepts of God on Evolution of One’s Faith

This session will digress from Fowler’s work to a discussion of images of God. The subject is important because one’s image of God has a major impact on one’s faith at each stage of development. It is likely that one’s image will change as one moves to higher levels of faith thinking. This session will attempt to clarify these images and perhaps help one to understand their individual image of God.

The Power of Forgiveness – Daughtry House Conference Room – through May 16

This class explores recent research into the psychological and physical effects of forgiveness on individuals and communities in a variety of conditions. Using a contemporary documentary for national public television, we will look at world events and interviews with renowned teachers and authors. This film also explores the role of forgiveness in various faith traditions, and provides an honest look at the intensity of human emotions. Through character-driven stories the film shows the role forgiveness can play in alleviating anger and grief. Join us as we consider the physical, mental and spiritual benefits which come from practicing forgiveness.

Parenting – Ruth Christie Room – through May 16

Yvonne Nass, Parenting Consultant, leads today’s class.

Westminster By Heart – Meeting Room – through May 16

Led by Biblical Storytellers Mary-beth Howard and Shelley Gnade
