Civil War Research ProjectGroup Members:
You will research a Civil War topic and develop a project based on your research. You must have sources for each citation.
IN CLASS WORK TIME WILL ONLY BE GIVEN ON May 13th. ( Subject to change).
Step One: Choose a topic. Your topic can be a specific person, a battle, or some other important topic related to the Civil War. (See pages 3 of this packet).
Step Two: Choose a format. You may choose PowerPoint, research paper, or an alternative presentation.
Step Three: You must have your topic and format approved by your teacher.

STEPS 1, 2 and 3 are due May 3rd.
Step Four: Research & Requirements
- Locate source material for your topic. Read the material and take notes on 3 x 5 index cards. Keep track of your sources. Use the system you used for research in Language Arts ( Noodletools?). You will turn in a bibliography so be sure to keep track of your sources. Your sources should be numbered. Remember to have one main idea per note card for each source.
2. You should have at least 6-8 note cards from at least 3 different sources. Turn your note cards in to Mrs. McCreary to be checked before proceeding. Mrs. MCCreary will record your grade on the rubric on page 2.
Step Five: Outline: Use your note cards to write an outline for your report. Turn in the outline to Mrs. McCreary to be checked. This must be approved before starting your Power Point, research paper, or alternative presentation.
STEPS 4 and 5 are due the end of the period May 13th.
Step Six: Final Project Guidelines (This will be your final grade for 8th grade American History).
POWERPOINT GUIDELINES
Use your outline to design your Power Point pages.
a. Your Power Point presentation will have a title page that includes your report topic, your name and a graphic or picture that relates to your report.
b. All other pages will be designed in the following format below.
c. Choose an easy to read font & use size 32-48. . Make sure your text can be read on your background.
d. No transition sounds. Sounds are optional and should only be included if they add to your project.
d. You should have at least 6 slides. Each informational slide should have a title and bullets of information.
e. You must include at least three pictures or graphics somewhere in your presentation.
f. The last page is a bibliography.
RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES
Use your outline as the basis for your research paper.
a. Your paper must be typed, printed in black ink and double spaced.
b. Your paper should be at least two pages in length and use size 12 font.
c. You must include a title page which includes your name, title of paper, date and period. The title page does not count as one of your two pages.
d. Neatness, spelling, and structure will be considered in your grade.
IMPORTANT-:
Save all files on your flash drive. Remember to save frequently!
IF YOUR REPORT IS FOUND TO CONTAIN ANY PLAGARISM, YOU WILL RECEIVE A ZERO AND AN OFFICE REFFERAL.
STEP 6 is due Monday, May 20th.
Grade based on the following rubric.

POSSIBLE RESEARCH TOPICS
*If you have a topic that you would like to research that is not listed below, see Mrs. McCreary for approval before starting your project. Examples-Diseases, Slavery during the Civil War, The Assassination of Lincoln, Prison Camps, Surrender at Appomattox.
Multiple students may not research the same person or topic.
Option #1: Biographical Reports. Research one of the following people. Your research should answer the following questions:
1. What are the basic biographical facts for my person?
2. What type of childhood and education did they have?
3. What careers and/or professions were they involved?
4. Why and/or how did they become involved in the Civil War?
5. What did they do during the Civil War?
6. What was their most important contribution to the Civil War?
7. What did they do after the Civil War?
8. Visuals: Your report will include photographs, portraits or image of your person. Be sure to use note cards to cite sources.
9. Save your pictures and files on your flash drive.

6. How did the battle progress (major actions, turning points, etc.?)
