  • The teams winning the overall photo competition and the video category will receive a $1,000 (USD) and $500 (USD) donation to their local food banks, respectively.

VolunteerRoles

Site Leaders - Larger sites are encouraged to put together several teams to engage more volunteers. Site Leaders will be responsible for coordinating the overall competition at their site. Smaller sites submitting one team may not need a Site Leader.

  • Select a recipient charity that needs canned or dry foods and coordinate onthe logistics to pick-up or drop-off items. Contact Cristina Lam if you need assistance identifying a local charity.
  • Work with Team Captains to organize the food drive at your location
  • Support Team Captains and volunteers by acting as liaison between Community Relations, the charity organization and the teams involved; serve as the main point of contact for questions about the overall event and competition
  • Work with Team Captains to decide on build location, date, and set-up

Team Captains – Overall responsibility forforming a team, including recruiting members and planning/organizing the building process.

  • Support the Site Leaders to coordinate the food drive
  • Create a projectin the portal similar to this World CAN 2016 - TEAM NAME; each team should create one portal event
  • Request t-shirts by clicking “T-shirts Export” on the event page and emailing with the downloaded excel sheet
  • Work with your team to come up with the idea and concept for your sculpture
  • Collect the supplies needed to build your sculpture
  • Gather any additional items or supplies from your department
  • Brainstorm with your team to come up with a team name
  • Encourage your department to stop by during the build, take pictures and enjoy the festivities!

Team Members – Promote the food drive and help to design and build the sculpture. Most importantly, have fun!

Site Specific Logistics

  • The date and location of the sculpture build(s) at each participating office will be determined by the Team Captains and/or Site Leader.
  • Please check with thehead of your office* and other senior leaders to see when they might be available to take part and encourage their participation.
  • Reach out to your local Facilities manager to find an area in the office to accommodate the build. All teams should be allocated45 minutes to build their sculptures and take team photos.

Rules

Please make sure your team and sculptures adhere to the following rules:

  • Boxes and cans must be full, unopened, with their labels intact
  • Do not place tape anywhere on can labels themselves. The cans may be covered, so long as the label is not damaged and the wrapping can be removed easily. Velcro and clear tape may be used as adhesives (note: no tape can be used on the can’s label). You may also use rubber bands, nylon string, and wire. You may not use permanent adhesives, such as glue. While this is a fun, creative event, the ultimate goal is collecting food for your local charity, and cans without labels cannot be donated.
  • Do not use glass in your structure.
  • Props and other items are permitted but should not be the dominating feature of your entry. The sculpture should be primarily food items.
  • Preassembled components are allowed; however, preassembled cans/non-perishable food items are not allowed. All can sculptures must be built and assemble during the designated 45 minute time slot your Site or Team Leader has determined.
  • Your team may have an unlimited number of members, but – due to space constraints – plan out how many people and space will be available in the area of the office you’re building in. Make sure there’s room for the team(s), their sculpture(s) and general audience. Only six team members may be working on the structure at any given time. Members may rotate in and out throughout the competition as long as only six are in the building area.

Collecting Cans

Sculptures should be built using the items collected during the food drive; additionally, teams may purchase and donate food items to use in their build. We encourage you to find creative ways to collect cans! For example:

  • Ask team members to pay a “registration” fee which will go towards purchasing the team’s cans
  • Ask colleagues in the department to bring in cans to donate or to donate to the team’s “collection can”
  • Reach out to family, friends, neighbors, etc. for any cans they might want to donate

Global Competition

A maximum of 3 photos and 1 video may be submitted per team and entered into the global photo and video competition, which will go to employee vote.
