This workshop is for middle school and high school science, technology and agricultural science teachers. Sessions throughout the day will focus on student research projects, how to include research projects within the already jam-packed curriculum and the specifics of science fair projects and the CASEF program. CASEF is affiliated with Science for Society and the Public and the official stepping stone to the INTEL sponsored International Science and Engineering Fair and the BroadcomMASTERS program. CASEF participants also move on to compete in i-SWEEEP, Stockholm Water International, BioGENIUS and various other local, state, national and international science competitions. The 2016 fair awarded more than $1 million in prizes and scholarships to local students. Topics will include PA State Library resources including the hands-on use of the Maker Space technology (3-D printing, Raspberry Pi circuitry, Robotics and Forensics) activities. Teachers will also learn how to have these and other resources loaned to their classrooms. Other topics include basic statistical analysis for science projects, and general Q&A about student science research. We will also have a specific session for CASEF and PJAS competition information. Teachers will leave with a list of available materials from the State Library and how to borrow for classroom use, information on how to access the resources of the State Library, basic statistical analysis methods for science projects, ideas on incorporating student research into your curriculum and information on science and technology opportunities.
