WORKSHEET FOR CLASS VIII

Chapter 2. Linear Equations in One Variable

1. Solve the following equations.

I. a – 4 = 15

ii. 20 = 2b - 15

iii. 1.6 = x /2.5

iv. 4c/5 = 4

v. a / 7 + 2 = 9/14

vi. 2 – 3(2x + 1 ) = 2(7- 6x )

vii. 0.3(6 + b ) = 0.4( 8 – b )

2. Two numbers are in the ratio 7 : 5. If they differ by 16., what are the numbers ? ( 56 , 40 )

3. The denominator of a rational number is greater than its numerator by 10. If the numerator is increased by 19 and the denominator is decreased by 1, the number obtained is 3/2. Find the rational number. ( 11/ 21 )

4. The sum of three consecutive multiples of 5 is 330. Find the multiples. ( 105, 110, 115 )

5. Three consecutive integers are such that when they are taken in increasing order and multiplied by 3, 4 and 5 respectively, they add up to 386. Find these numbers.( 31, 32, 33 )

6. The perimeter of a rectangular swimming pool is 188m. Its length is 4 m more than twice its breadth. What are the length and breadth of the pool ? ( 30 m )

7. The present age of Aditya’s mother is four times that of Aditya’s age. Aditya’s age ten years from now will be half of his mother’s present age. What are their ages ? ( Aditya - 10yrs, Mother - 40 yrs )8. 8. The ages of Asha and Nirmal are in the ratio 5 : 6. Five years from now their ages will be 6 : 7. Find their present ages. ( Asha – 25, Nirmal – 30 )

8. Divide 4000 into two parts such that 15% of the first part is equals to 25% of the second part. ( 2500, 1500 )

9. The angles of a triangle are 3x°, ( 2x + 20 )º and ( 5x – 40 )º. Find the angles. Hence show that the triangle is an equilateral triangle. ( 60º )

10. The sum of three consecutive multiples of 7 is 777. find these multiples. ( 252, 259, 266 )

11. Find three consecutive even numbers whose sum is 186. ( 60, 62. 64 )

12. Find three consecutive odd numbers whose sum is 165. ( 53, 55, 57 )
