FENTON DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY PROCEEDINGS

Tuesday February 18, 2014

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Schmidt at 6:00pm.

ROLL CALL:

PRESENT: Bayer, Bertschy, Canever (phone), Green, Henderson,

James (phone), Kasper, Schmidt, Strayer, Sweetman, Wesch

ABSENT: Osborn, Saule

OTHERS: Michael Burns DDA Director/Assistant City Manager,

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT:

STREETSCAPE: We ran into a snag with the State and the Federal Governments. I sent a memo to the board reference the delay. There was a delay in bidding with MDOT, caused by the project manager. This in turn will delay submitting for the Federal Grant about 1-2 months. Genesee County submitted to the Federal Highway Administration that the project was to be from Elizabeth St. to Sixth St. It should have been from Elizabeth St. to Second St. That issue will be corrected.

Both the City Manager and I have been busy with paperwork for bonding.

We have a theme picked out for the Street Scape. It will be called

“Fenton Project 180”. There is an attachment on the 2/14/14 Friday Memo.

We are busy getting ready for all of the projects this summer.

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Shane presented the Financial Report.

We did make the loan payment to Corlin this month.

a)  Accounts Payable Authorize payment of bills in the amount of $32,840.41

b)  Minutes of the January 21, 2014 DDA Board Meeting

SCHMIDT asked why we had an item from Craftsmen for streetlights instead of Chapple that we usually use.

BURNS advised that it was just for testing some LED lighting downtown.

BERTSCHY asked about the $22,856.00 line item listed under Streetscape, but it was for Cornerstone site inspection.

BURNS advised that he would change that.

The current sculptures will be on display until May. Then Midwest Sculpture Initiative will install the new sculptures, which will be selected on March 13th. We have an opportunity to purchase any of the sculptures if we wish to. We have to make that decision before March 1st. If we decide to purchase one we will be able to do so after July 1st.

KASPER votes to purchase the FISH.

SWEETMAN would like to purchase the FISH also.

STRAYER thought it might be a little too pricey.

STRAYER added that the base of the FISH was from the Libby’s Glass Factory in Toledo, Ohio.
