WORKER'S COMPENSATION: HOW IT WORKS

If you are injured on the job, you are eligible to receive Workers’ Compensation benefits.

If this is an emergency, take care of the injured person. Call 911 or take them to the emergency room immediately. Let the ER Physician know that this is a worker’s comp claim. They will use your social security number as a claim number to bill Pinnacol Assurance. You will receive an official claim number after the 1st Report of Injury Form is sent in.

You must see a worker’s comp Physician for therapy or follow-up care. Please let the ER Physician know that it is required for you to see a worker’s comp physician from:

Fill out the 1st Report of Injury Form within 24 hours.

The first step in filing a claim is tonotify your supervisor of your injury or illness immediately. Your supervisor is responsible for promptly completing an AccidentReporting Form (within 24 hours) on your behalf that documents the details of the injury. The report serves as a formal notice to the insurance company and to Marmot that you sustained an accidental injury or illness on the job.

Personal information is required on the report. Upon completion, the supervisor sends the accidentreport to Pinnacol Assurance online at by fax at 303-361-5000 or phone call 800-873-7242. The claim number from Pinnacol Assurance will be used by the worker’s comp Physician to bill services.

IF THE EMPLOYEE DOES NOT LOSE WORK TIME

The claim is set up to make payments for any medical expenses related to the injury or illness. The employee should tellthe health care provider to send the bills to Pinnacol Assurance for payment under Marmot’s worker's compensation program.

Employees on workers compensation are responsible for keeping their supervisor and Administrative Services Manager informed of their work status. All disability documentation from the Physician noting the employees dates of absent from work and the diagnosis of the injury or illness must be provided to the supervisor and Administrative Services Manager immediately. If this documentation is not provided, the employee’s continued absence from work will be considered unauthorized and the workers compensation benefits will be suspended.

When an employee is able to fully return to work, written clearance from the treating Physician documenting that the employee is fully capable of performing regular job duties must be provided to your supervisor and Administrative Services Manager.
