We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Network Services team in Cornwall, Devon & Somerset!!

What is the job?

The Maintenance Technician undertakes all aspects of the maintenance, inspection and modification of all plant and equipment associated with the gas transportation system and third party sites, e.g. mains, services, pressure reduction equipment, heaters, pipework, valves, filters, gas conditioning units, storage, meters and compressor stations equipment to maintain the system fit for purpose.

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out all work on the Network safely and cost effectively, keeping up to date with current technical and industry standards and future developments which may be of an individual specialist nature, as a team leader or as a co-ordinator of a number of teams/ individuals.
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities to satisfy Network Services, Wales & West Utilities (WWU), third party and legislative requirements
  • Prepare reports and provide information, guidance and advice to Network Services management and third party customers on technical matters relating to the Network.
  • Oversee activities carried out by Contractors/Direct Labour where necessary and appropriate.
  • Undertake and oversee all installation, commissioning, maintenance, validation, modification, repair and calibration work in accordance with appropriate policies, procedures and statutory requirements to ensure optimum technical performance and reliability of equipment.
  • Participate in the design and costing of minor modifications.
  • Work within and promote the philosophy of team working and development across all activities in order to achieve business objectives and improve performance,
  • In carrying out these duties, the job holder shall comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 by taking reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of him/herself and others.
  • Prepare plans and procedures of non-complex operations, including authorising noncomplex procedures.

Technical Know-How & Skills

  • BTec National certificate or NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Detailed understanding of appropriate Company standards and instructions
  • Assessed as competent against STC framework
  • Valid current driving license
  • He/she will normally be required to participate in a published standby rota.
