How to work out slippers SIZE
width = slipper one diagonal of the square of x
slipper length = 2 x the square diagonal
Length of the diagonal of the square is ~ 1.43 x the square side length.
(The exact result can be obtained by solving the equation c, where a = the square side length, and c = diagonal of the square.)The diagonal of 1 square x 2 = length of slipper.
If you define the size of the foot, the exact length according to the measure, you can reduce the measurement result, 15-20%, as the slipperwill stretch!
TENTATIVE SQUARE SIZE of different sizes TOSSUISSA
squares SIZE / diagonal of the square
baby's size / (4 x 4) cm / ~ 5.7 cm
children / (6 x 6) cm / ~ 8.6 cm
women / (8 x 8) cm / 11.4 cm
men's / (10 x 10) cm / 14.3 cm
Colours: For slipper in 2 colours, see pattern. Work the slipper in 8 colours after colour diagram M.1A and M.1B.
M.1A = Slipper 1.
M.1B = Slipper 2.
Garter st, back and forth on needle: K all rows.
Squares: See M.2 for square numbers.
Assembly: See M.2 for assembly instructions. M.3 shows the squares’ positioning after assembly.
Slipper: Worked back and forth on needle in squares, sewn tog afterwards.
  1. Cast on 10-(11-12) sts on needle size 7 mm with purple (for slipper in 8 colours, see explanation above).
  2. Work garter st for 8.5(9-10) cm (= square 1),
  3. change to plum and work garter st for 8.5-(9-10) cm (= square 2).
  4. Continue like this working purple and plum squares alternately until you have 3 purple and 3 plum squares (= 6 squares in total). Piece now measures 51-54-60 cm, cast off.
  5. Now pick up 10-(11-12) sts on right side of square 2 with purple (= square 7), work 8.5 –(9-10) cm garter st, cast off.
  6. Pick up 10-(11-12) sts on left side of square 6 with plum (= square 8) and work like square 7.
Assembly: Fold slipper and sew tog, edge to edge, as described in M.2. The sole of the slipper = 24-(26-28) cm. Knit another slipper in the same way.
Crochet border: Crochet round the opening of slipper with crochet hook size 8 mm and colour of your choice as follows (beg mid back): * 1 dc, 2 ch *, repeat from *-*, and finish with 1 slst in first dc from beg of round.
