Word: Formatting a Term Paper

Open the file TreasureIsland.docx. Then do the following. Each item is one point.

  1. Save the file with the file name TreasureIsland-FirstName-LastName.docx.
  2. Change all occurrences of the word parlour to parlor.
  3. Set the page orientation to portrait.
  4. Set the margins to 1" on all four sides (Normal).
  5. Set the alignment for the entire document to justified.
  6. Cut out the red text and move it to the top of the document.
  7. Change the red text to black.
  8. Set the font name for the entire document to Garamond.
  9. Set the font size for the entire document to 13 points.
  10. Set the line spacing for the entire document to 1.5.
  11. Set the spacing after each paragraph to 6 points.
  12. Set the first-line indent for the entire document to .5".
  13. Insert a header ("Blank (Three Columns)") and remove all three occurrences of "[Type text]". In the left part of the header, put a code for the current date. This should always automatically update to the current date whenever the document is opened. Use whatever date format you like.
  14. Put your name in the right part of the header.
  15. Add page numbers in the center of the footer. Use the Plain Number style.
  16. Cover Page: Add a cover page using the Sideline style. The title should be Treasure Island.
  17. Cover page: For the author, put your name.
  18. Cover page: Delete all other fields on the cover page (Company, etc.).
  19. Find all three chapter headings. Each heading begins with the word Chapter and includes that line and the line below it. Center all six of these lines. Note that for them to be centered you will have to set the first-line indent value to 0 for all six lines.
  20. Set the font size for all three chapter headings (all six lines) to 20 points.
  21. Set the line spacing for the first paragraph ("SQUIRE TRELAWNEY…") to single-spaced.
  22. Increase the margins for the first paragraph by .5" on both the left and the right. Note that increasing the margin means the margin will be wider and the text will be narrower.
  23. Locate the two lines beginning with Fifteen men… (should be the third and fourth paragraphs of the document) and make each sentence into an item on a bulleted list.
  24. Add a citation to the end of the last sentence in the first paragraph (after "under our roof."). You will have to create a new source. For the type of source, select Book, for the author, enter Stevenson, Robert Louis for the title, enter Treasure Island, and for the publication date, enter 1883.
  25. Move to the end of the document and insert a bibliography. Use the Works Cited option.
