$7,500 goes to winning school!

(New York, NY – June 22, 2010) News Talk Radio 710, WOR announced today that it has launched its sixth annual ShiningStar Talent Search, continuing its long-time support for the arts and educational systems. One lucky student will have the opportunity to win $1,500 and bring home to his or her school an additional $7,500!

WOR’s Shining Star Talent Search allows students in grades 7-12 to record a musical piece and submit their final recording to the station by Friday, October 1, 2010. In the past, WOR’s Shining Star Talent Search has taken place during the spring; however, this year’s contest deadline has been moved to the fall, in order to provide students with ample time to practice and record their songs over the course of the summer, while their school obligations are not making such large demands on their time, and their schedules are less hectic.

All entries will be judged by WOR’s talk hosts and staff. The top 15 finalists will have their entries played by Joe Bartlett on TheWOR Saturday Morning Show on Saturday, October 9, 2010. The top 4 finalists will be announced on The John Gambling ShowonMonday, October 11, 2010, and all listeners will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite singer via phone or on the web. The winners and runners-up will be announced on The John Gambling Show on Thursday, October 14.

Cash prizes for the finalists are: 4th place ($250), 3rd Place ($500), 2nd Place ($750) and WOR’s Shining Star ($1,500). The Shining Star winner will also receive $7500 for their school!

WOR Radio’s Shining Star Talent Search has often been used as an entertaining and educational class project, and it is a wonderful opportunity for talented students to show off their voices to WOR Radio listeners and music industry professionals.

Jerry Crowley, WOR Vice President and General Manger, said, “I am pleased that Buckley Broadcasting Corporation, the parent of WOR, has decided to keep its important support of the arts alive in the tri-state area. This substantial investment comes at a time when many media companies have cut back their outreaches to the community.”
