Wonderful Pistachios Joins Forces with
American Diabetes Association® to Encourage Healthy Eating
Leading Healthy Snack Company Introduces
Healthy Eating Toolkit for Supermarket Retail Dietitians
Los Angeles, November 15, 2016 – Wonderful Pistachios, a champion of healthy snacking, announced today it will sign on as a national Stop Diabetes® sponsor of the American Diabetes Association. In a strategic effort to encourage healthy eating, Wonderful Pistachios hopes to move the country toward healthier habits, one snack break at a time. This strategic alliance recognizes both groups’ commitment to stop diabetes, the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.
“Wonderful Pistachios is proud to support the American Diabetes Association in raising awareness for healthy eating throughout the month of November for American Diabetes Month® and beyond,” said Adam Cooper, vice president of marketing, Wonderful Pistachios. “People love snacking—in fact, snacking makes up half of all eating occasions in America—so our goal is to encourage all Americans to snack smarter. With a portfolio of healthy brands at The Wonderful Company, encouraging healthy choices is in our DNA.”
“We are proud to have the support of Wonderful Pistachios for this important initiative,” said Alicia McAuliffe-Fogarty, PhD, CPsychol, vice president of lifestyle management for the American Diabetes Association. “It can be difficult for individuals with diabetes to navigate the best snack options in the right amounts, and it’s important for us to work with an organization that shares a common goal to provide healthier choices.”
Wonderful Pistachios is also recognized as a supporter of the Association’s National Healthy Lunch Day℠ initiative, which takes place annually on the third Tuesday in November—November 15 this year. The Association is offering a free, easy-to-usee-toolkit that provides a wealth of scalable ideas, tips, lunch-themed activities and suggestions to help companies and organizations inspire, encourage and empower employees and communities to have a healthy lunch.
In addition, Wonderful Pistachios is launching its own healthy eating toolkit just in time for American Diabetes Month®, specially designed for supermarket retail dietitians. Developed by chef-dietitian and author of “The All Natural Diabetes Cookbook,” Jackie Newgent, RDN, CDN, the toolkit emphasizes eating deliciously and nutritiously with diabetes.
“As a chef and nutritionist, I want to help people understand that eating right with diabetes can and should taste great,” said Newgent. “The American Diabetes Association calls nuts, like pistachios, a ‘diabetes superfood’ because, among other things, they help with hunger management. Pistachios’ trio of fiber, protein and good fats help keep you fuller longer, making them a smarter bet than carbohydrate-heavy snacks.” Newgent recommends trying pistachios instead of croutons on salad or using chopped pistachios instead of breadcrumbs on baked chicken or fish.
The strategic support of the Association by Wonderful Pistachios includes working with health and wellness practitioners, nutritionists, registered dietitians and other influencers to raise awareness about health and wellness.
