Women’s Squirrel Hunt
Women’s Archery Deer Hunt
October 22-25, 2008
If you have ever thought about hunting squirrels or archery deer hunting, but just didn’t know how to go about it or if you are an experienced hunter that would like to join a group of like-minded women for a hunt, then this hunt is for you. There is no structured instruction, but a limited number of women will be available to assist you if needed.
We have booked the Lantz House, afarmhouse owned and operated by WheelingJesuitUniversity, which adjoins Lewis Wetzel Wildlife Management Area near Jacksonburg, WetzelCounty to stay in the nights of October 22, 23, and 24. To get to Lantz House, turn right on County Route 82 in Jacksonburg, cross the railroad tracks and take the first right to the farm. The farm is reserved for the three days and you may choose to hunt all or part of these days. You may arrive on Wednesday evening October 22 if you wish.
Archery Hunt: If you choose to take part in this hunt you must be an experienced archer with your own equipment (not borrowed) and show proficiency. You do not necessarily need to have hunted deer before but should have the equipment to do so. We suggest that you attempt to make all three days of the hunt to better ensure your success.
Squirrel Hunt: bring your own 22 caliber rifle or shotgun with appropriate ammunition. Blaze orange is not required, but isrecommended.
In order to participate, you must be at least 18 years of age. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1975 must have completed a hunter safety course.
We will be providing supper on Thursday and Friday. If anyone is successful on the squirrel hunt and would like to donate some squirrels to the pot, we will prepare a squirrel potpie on Friday evening. We will also be providing bottled water and coffee throughout the hunt. All other meals and drinks are the responsibility of the participant. A full kitchen is available.
