WATERS ALIVE ! connects artists, the City of Seattle, and local citizen groups to promote healthy urban waterways in the Puget Sound Region
Women Painters of Washington is partnering with the City of Seattle’s Restore Our Waters Initiative to present Waters Alive !, the newest exhibition at Women Painters of Washington Gallery in the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle. The gallery is free and open to the public. Thirty regional artists from the greater Puget Sound area display work that honors the exhibition theme and showcases their diverse talents in a variety of media, including watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, and pastel.
Janet Hamilton, an Everett-based artist and one of the key organizers of the show, saw an opportunity for artists who are inspired by the natural beauty of Puget Sound, to join others who are working to rescue and restore the health of our urban waterways. She and Susan Harper, the Outreach Coordinator for the City of Seattle’s Restore Our Waters Initiative, laid the ground work for the Waters Alive! exhibit . Restore Our Waters is Seattle’s commitment to take actions and promote partnerships that protect and improve our creeks, lakes, the Duwamish River, and Puget Sound ( Waters Alive! connects women artists with governmental and citizen groups that focus on promoting healthy water and habitat for wildlife and people in our region. Hamilton states, “As women and as artists, we are happy to partner with others in our community to help raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship.”
To support local programs that advocate healthy water and habitat, the artists will donate a percentage of their commission to several nonprofit organizations that promote ecological citizenship, including the Arboretum Foundation ( People for Puget Sound ( and Seattle Audubon Society ( Collectively, these organizations reflect the vital interconnectedness of healthy urban waterways and sustainable habitat for wildlife and people in our region. Join the participating artists, representatives from the City of Seattle, and these citizen groups at the opening reception on Wednesday, November 12th, 2-4pm.
